In any case, even using a pre-existing engine would take considerably longer than a year (especially considering this isn't his main job and he doesn't have experience in game design OR more importantly might not even understand what makes a game fun).

Pretty sure he's a physicist and from what I've heard he acts mostly the same irl too and drives his irl acquaintances just as nuts as he drives us

Not really, if they manage to find some good open-source engine all he'd really have to do was put the created data/images in. And writing a specialized engine from 0 should take about a year at most if he's experienced and stuff.

It is so awesome it'll knock your freaking socks off! In all honesty, yes, I am always accepting new characters and players. Come jump into the insanity that is Cross Effects: Crossover Crack Urban Fantasy. And I allow up to three versions of "canon" characters at any given time. That cap may be upped in the future if there are more members. Also, since this is a crossover RP, I will definitely allow characters from other series as well. In fact, I welcome it. (As for fanfic, I haven't written anything fanfic wise since what, March? Oh, July in an attempt that was abandoned for the contest.)

Don't worry about Elf's RP; you can join in any time (several people have done so in fact). As for the amount of users, well, it's still growing. That's why we went public after all. And we have people (myself included) who will contribute fics in the near future. It's still too early for it to compare to BL, but we're working on making the forum grow as much as possible, and if you want to join, you're more than welcome to do so. If you want to contribute anything, feel free to do so as well.
Kaiza, convince me. I'm actually considering going to DSM, but you'll need to tell me why I should. I took a look, and from what I've seen there's not really much there that isn't already on BL. Elf's RP looks awesome, but from what I can tell it started in June and I doubt they're still accepting new characters. BMW 2 is doomed to fail even more so than it did on BL, and I say that as part of the original team (if you can even call it that) that had the idea to start it up in the first place. All the people I know are on BL, and DSM has only a fraction of the users. The fanfic section is bare. A third of it is lantz fics, and the other two thirds are idea threads and threads by Elf and Nerroth that never progressed past the first page. Do you have anyone on the level of Arashi or Moczo there to attract readers? Do you have a bunch of people willing to comment on stories and review them like BL does? Don't take this as me straight up hating on DSM 2.0. I'm honestly interested. But this is merely what I've observed, and so far it doesn't make me want to create an account there. If you can prove me wrong then please do so, because I'm honestly interested here.
Kaiza, I honestly wish you luck on this endeavor, but as long as Mike is involved then the little army of trolls that he seems to attract are just gonna turn the new DSoM into DSoM 2: Revengeance.
Well, aside from the fact that a few of the projects (like BMW2 and the Cross Effects RP) can only be done there since Mike can't do it here, it's simply a matter of choice. BL doesn't really have to be the only TM forum. Plus, we try to give a nicer atmosphere and we're working on more unique content.
Pardon me here KAIZA, but I have to ask a serious question here as it's really bothering me. What actual need is there for redesigning this forum? All I'm getting from this blog post and looking at the forum itself is that anything on DSotM could just as simply be done here on BL. I don't want to knock all of the work you and others put into this project, but it feels like...a complete waste of time and resources. As it stands right now I'm not sold on DSotM as it comes off as something redundant.
