Rate this Entry
Hi all, I'm starting up my new blog here with summaries of 'Mayo Chiki', a series I've been working on recently. This post will cover half of Vol5, basically what the anime didn't cover of that volume.

Enjoy =D

half of Vol5
Vol5 Ch5 (the day after the date with Nakuru)

August 31st, Kureha went for a sleepover somewhere and Jiro is taking the time to relax. After being bothered in consecutive days (working with Usami at the café, Nakuru’s date, birthday party etc) he swears he’s going to relax by himself.
He also says a normal family might be hesitant to let girls like Kureha run off without supervision, like if they’re doing things with another boy their family don’t have that problem; Jiro says nobody is suicidal enough to go out with Kureha, not even someone on the level of Jack Bauer.

1:15pm, Jiro’s plans were shot to hell as Subaru came over. Subaru wants to practice cooking, but is banned from the kitchen at the mansion (because of her lethal cooking (see Jiro’s porridge when he’s sick) and from the old fear of knives (which by this point is cured)).
They decide on making something simple like curry, but even then Jiro snarked saying he’s likely to urgently need a delivery of stomach medicine or else today will be the last day of his life. Subaru mentioned many of Kanade’s favourite foods, and Jiro found they all have chicken in it for some reason (pun on his name).

Cooking starts, and Subaru is getting nervous at being so close with Jiro and blushing. Jiro chalked that down as a slight summer cold. Subaru asks if Jiro is good at cooking since he went to work at a café, and with Usami too. Jiro replies it’s repayment for Usami helping him with summer vacation homework. Subaru mutters if he had asked then she would have helped, much to Jiro’s surprise – he had thought Subaru would frown upon needing help for homework so he didn’t ask Subaru.

Subaru then found Kureha is away for the day, and blushed even more. She got so nervous when she was washing the rice grains she almost put in extra-strength cleaning liquid. Subaru apologised for not being to do anything without Jiro, and he replied it’s no big deal since they’re best friends. Subaru’s mood went down after hearing that and Jiro didn’t know why, with him thinking why is she like this when she’s the one that asked to be best friends. He resolved to lift her spirits by reinforcing how they’re best friends, only to see her getting steadily worse even as he is fighting his own embarrassment saying those words.
(ie, she’s not satisfied at being best friends but Jiro current situation is grinded into her face)

The curry reached the end stage without any major problems – except that one time when Subaru accidently dropped the oil bottle into the pot, and when she accidently knocked over the vodka in the kitchen and the flames ended up reaching the ceiling. Subaru thought the end result is a bit plain and needs some sort of secret ingredient to make it special. She opened up the secret stash of vintage wine Jiro’s mother had hidden away by accident, then decided to add some into the curry. Subaru tried a sip to see how strong it is, then got drunk immediately. Various antics ensued, including
1)Jiro trying to dilute the alcohol with cold tea but couldn’t find any, tried to use milk instead and led to Subaru ranting how she drank more milk than Kanade but her chest is still tiny.
2)Subaru started stripping and complained it’s hot. Jiro almost caved after seeing the zettai ryouiki of her T-shirt and socks and gynophobia or not he almost wanted to go for Subaru.
3)Subaro tried to snatch back the wine, cornered Jiro and pounced onto him. The wine tipped all over Jiro so Subaru straddled him and started licking the wine off him. Jiro is on the verge of fainting from gynophobia and desperately asked Subaru to stop, saying they’re best friends and if this go on further that relationship will be in danger. Subaru starting nibbling at Jiro after hearing that, displeased.

Subaru was on the verge of confessing her love for Jiro but fell asleep from the wine. Jiro carried her over to the lounge and set her down onto the sofa, then finished cooking the curry.

Vol5 Ch6
This chapter is in Kanade’s POV. She’s dissecting her feelings towards Jiro, saying it’s the first time she felt this way towards a guy. She also mentions her first love was Subaru. When Kanade kissed Jiro and using her first kiss, even she had thought ‘is this going a bit too far?’ – but she says she doesn’t regret doing it.

Kanade’s self-examination was brought to a halt when Subaru came in to visit her (she also notes it’s rare for Subaru to visit her at 11pm at night). Subaru asked if Kanade likes Jiro, and Kanade replied yes – likes him as a friend, not as a guy (Subaru got trolled).
Subaru finally came clean and told Kanade she confessed to Jiro back at the Summer festival. Kanade is annoyed that Jiro had lied to her about saying nothing had happened between him and Subaru when she asked him about this earlier, and resolved to punish him verbally in such a way he’ll almost awaken to the wonders of S&M when she sees him tomorrow.
Subaru said she had wanted to tell him she loves him, but was afraid of being rejected and modified her confession to being ‘best friends’. Kanade teased Subaru endlessly about this, and can’t help it because Subaru looked so cute as she blushed.

Subaru said it’s the first time she felt this way, and even though she wants to tell Jiro how she really feels every time she tries and looks at his face she lost her ability to form words due to being too embarrassed. Subaru came begging for Kanade’s help since she had no-one else to turn to. Kanade agreed to help Subaru, since she thought all she needs is for Subaru to be happy. Kanade thought the biggest problem right now is Usami, as she has seen firsthand how close those two are (part-time job event a few days ago) but she’s confident she can still out-plan Usami to get Subaru with Jiro in the end.

Despite thinking that way, deep within Kanade is a self that refuses to accept this decision, one that says she’s denying who she really is. Don’t use feeble excuses like “this will be entertaining to watch” or “Subaru will be happy this way”, if you continue on this path eventually you will make a fatal mistake.

The chapter, and Volume 5, ends with Kanade finally realising she also loves Jiro.

Post length limit: 10,000 characters. Summaries up to Vol10 will be coming later, possibly in bits and pieces due to limit.
