Tales of a Role Player who loves F/sN and Sci-Fi (among other things)

So... doing some voice acting... what do I do?

Okay, before you guys ask, I was perusing YouTube at the time. I had been notified of a voice acting contest for an RPG Maker game earlier this week, and, when I saw the video on the site, I decided, "why not?" Besides, it would be good practice for my LP idea, which I won't go into over in this post.

So, after realizing that I didn't even have a voice recording program, I went and got Audacity, installed it, and started acting a couple voices. Let me tell you right now... my normal voice? It sucks. I mean, it's a bit on the fast side, and I have a ton of other problems in regards to it.

You want an idea how bad my voice is? Well, here's the prototype of my LP, which I am only posting because of the fact that my voice does not sound good in this video.

Anyway, after I realized the errors in my voice acting, I decided to get some assistance in the matter. The only person I knew of that could help was in the house I live in at the time... I asked her to test out the audio. First time, though, I learned that I needed to slow my voice down. Second time? I actually slowed it down... and it should be a lot better.

    It's a pretty normal voice. It probably sounds tinny because you're using a cheap mic, and no postprocessing.

    ...ouch. I honestly didn't know about postprocessing until now.

    Got any good recommendations for how to fix that?

    Easy mode: Effect -> Equalization

    Hard mode: Effect -> Everything else

    Cheat: Google

    Funny you should mention Audacity... I didn't have it before, back when I did that video, which means I was being more of a moron than I should have been.
