Malfunctioning keyboards on my laptop, and now BSODs on my desktop

Rate this Entry
Recently (a couple days ago) my desktop computer would occasionally go into a Blue Screen when shutting down. It's not after the 'force shut down window', but rather just before.

It doesn't happen every time I shut down either, and typically happens after I have turned the computer on for a long period of time and am shutting down.

I was only able to take a picture of the error in time before the BSOD went to black screen and subsequent 'boot windows normally or in safe mode' screen yesterday. It looks as follows:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333)

My tablet driver (Intuos 3) also suddenly stopped working yesterday, but after re installing it now works fine. The BSODs have however persisted despite the driver re install.

Could be a virus. With all of the trouble that you have. Did you scan a computer lately?

Disable all the services you have that you don't seem to need.

Sounds like a virus or a malware of some sort. What is your anti-virus and anti-malware? If you have none, I recommend Avira and Malware-Bytes. DL and install and reboot in safe mode and perform a scan of your system.

Normally, a registry log from HJT to confirm either one can be used but I ain't an expert at reading registry logs. If the above fix doesn't work get HiJackThis (HJT) install and run and post the log on computer fix it forums or here if anyone is an expert.

It's less likely a virus, and more likely drivers, drivers, drivers.

Well, I can take a look at any such log, I've debugged my own computer using such things in the past.
  7. Mike1984's Avatar
It does look likely to be a driver error, though.

If you google that error you'd find a load of issues with outdated graphics drivers. Try those. Memory checks and other shit usually don't help, still worth doing. Issue resolved for someone after updating graph drivers and someone rid of it by swapping graphics card.

Ok, I'll go get a hijackthis log tomorrow. I knew you were a pro physicist, mike, but I didn't know you were also a computer log savvy individual! That's pretty cool.

I checked my graphics drivers under devices and hardware, windows told me it was up to date... I was considering reinstalling the driver, but wouldn't that black out my screen permanently (since there is no driver to operate display) and render me in an even worse off position? =\

Kaspersky antivirus. been running it for a month, it used to be kaspersky pure. It's been pretty stable so i dunno...

Task manager? I'm not familiar with what most of them do (except the obvious ones like chrome and windows explorer etc.), is the only way to do this using google to manually check what every single one of the processes does?

Stop error 0x3b is usually a graphic's driver (display adapter/video driver), other possibilities include
but are not limited to antivirus/antispyware/security programs and even memory (mapping).
In other words, update your major drivers, see if it still happens. Check everything else.

And no, don't check Windows update. Check your manufacturer's page, not Windows. Windows often says its up to date despite obvious evidence to the contrary.

It shouldn't, no, because windows has default display drivers that it can use in situations like that.

Post SS of your services, and I'll point out the ones that you can safely disable (on windows 7, control panel>administration>services)

And no, your screen won't black out if you uninstall graphic drivers. It would just switch to default ones that are (way) less productive.

Going to try updating graphics drivers, grab a picture of task manager, and get a hijackthis log since I was busy at AFa the whole day (so many Kirito cosplayers wtf) and I still need to buy a new keyboard...

Anyway, the problem seems to have gotten worse, or at least it gets worse when the tablet is plugged into the system.

I booted my computer earlier with the tablet plugged into the USB ports- chrome refused to start up, task manager does refused to start, ctrl alt del and ctrl shift esc to bring up task manager did nothing.

When I hit shut down, it just went to bsod after the 'force shut down' window popped up. windows automatically restarted the computer (with the tablet still inserted in the system) and on the second startup
I got the message 'the tablet driver is not running'.

I also got an additional error message in that same session saying 'Tablet driver is not running- the program did not start or respond to the request in a timely fashion'. It also kept making that funny bam dum dum bam sound throughout the period that the tablet was plugged into the computer (you know, the one that usually denotes that a new usb device has been plugged in and then the sound that a usb device has been taken out).

So I tried shutting down again. No response. I then manually hit the power switch, and it went to BSOD.

This time, I unplugged the tablet, and it booted normally (although it did take an unnaturally long time to boot) and I was able to start chrome and task manager again. During this (the third boot) I also received the same two messages from the previous boot saying:
'the tablet driver is not running' and 'Tablet driver is not running- the program did not start or respond to the request in a timely fashion'.

So now, extremely confused and suspecting hardware failure, I plugged the tablet into my laptop and it worked perfectly fine. The tablet did, anyway. There were no errors, the driver ran fine, etc on my laptop. However I'm afraid to plug it into my desktop again lest it wreak havoc again.

I tried pressing 'analyse' but it said no internet connection available despite the fact that there was. I'm too exhausted to fix it/argue with it right now so I hope this is the correct log. I'll be back tomorrow if it's wrong.

And no, your screen won't black out if you uninstall graphic drivers. It would just switch to default ones that are (way) less productive.

    Big image so it's spoilered.

The image is a compilation of several screenshots of the task manager at different points of scrolling. The red arrows indicate that I've scrolled down to the next entry at or after the last one displayed in the previous ss of the task manager. (look at the scroll button if my explanation is a bit confusing, sorry bout this)

While reinstalling the latest driver, I got a few errors:

1)This error popped up while I was trying to run the installer with admin privileges. But the Nvidia graphics driver installer ran afterward anyway.

    2):
    )

This message was constantly blinking as if it was being updated constantly and also constantly returning the result that the new hardware wizard was open (the found new hardware window was not actually open). Eventually though the installation started by itself, I didn't actually close the found new hardware wizard myself because I didn't even see the 'found new hardware window' open.

The explanation is ok, but it seems the screenshot itself was downscaled (by photobucket?)
I can barely make out letters on it.

Erm, I don't use Windows 7 myself (I'm still on XP), but if that log is correct, I'm amazed your computer is doing anything at all. Lsass.exe is an important system file, and it's claiming "file missing"....

I'm not entirely sure what you've done there, but it looks to me like you've either screwed up your services or you've deleted something you shouldn't have.

In fact, the entire system32 directory seems to be broken. I guess that it's working because your system is 64-bit, but there are a bunch of services there that just look broken to me.

I think it's because of the automatic image size correction on the forum so it fits the browser. Try saving it and previewing it from your computer, Photobucket doesn't usually resize images.

I didn't do anything to the system32 folder at all, so I have no idea what went wrong.
