So I had a thought this morning regarding a Type-Moon story . . .

Initially, my idea was just to plan this as a power-grab between the Fifth War and the system's dismantlement ten years afterward (which, of course, necessitates that certain routes and Ends be followed).

Then I considered what might be possible if Alaya intervened prior to the Fourth War's even starting - I had visions of a teenaged Ilya being a second Master, while the Einzberns carried out the strategy they used in Fate/Zero.

Eventually, though, I've decided on this:

During either the Fourth or Fifth Grail War, Fuyuki is destroyed via Counter Guardian intervention (I'm thinking earthquake, or volcanic eruption - or triggering the explosives Kiritsugu had planted as a failsafe).

The resulting damage to the area's ley lines sends surges all across the country, creating a new prime area for the ritual to be held. While the Mages' Association is inclined to shut down the system altogether, those eager or desperate enough to try for one last attempt at the Grail make arrangements to gather in the new location, and make their play.

The players gather in Misaki Town, and the Apostate Crusade begins . . .

To answer the immediate questions:

* Depending on the routes I choose, the Fate and Tsukihime characters involved are variable, but the taint of Angra Mainyu is considered to be removed from the Grail following the prior War.

* There will be Einzbern, Tohsaka, and Tohno representatives in the War, regardless.

* I'm also planning on representatives from Atlas and the Church.

* Naturally, there are a couple of surprises planned, as well.

. . . Anyways, does this sound like something I should consider worth pursuing?

If Shiki Tohno is a character in there, I'll stick to the fic like white on rice. If not...I'll still read it but without much excitement.

He probably will be - though whether as a Master or an uninvolved bystander, I'm not sure. There are points in both scenarios that I like.

    it's just a question of which route he's taken . . .

Kieran, don't you have... 4 stories you still have to finish? I think adding a 5th might be... spreading one's self thin.

Also, Kiritsugu and the explosives. He didn't place explosives and plan to have the go off 50 years in the future. Instead, it was he planted and detonated the explosives on a leyline, causing it to shift and mana to gather and eventually explode, causing the end of the grail (in much the same way a pipe would burst).

Well, I'm thinking that a few of them can be tossed on the "discontinued/permanent hiatus" pile - they're mostly there already, I've just refused to acknowledge it. Technically, I count myself as having only 2 stories at the moment: Trinity, and whatever original work I manage to actually work on.

Good to know, thank you. So, I definitely need to sink Fuyuki into a crater, then.

My immediate question is... WILL the Grail System work anywhere else without basically starting from scratch? Doesn't detonating the leylines completely eradicate the existence of the grail system itself?

As I understand it, yes, you'd have to rebuild the system - but at least the leyline surge would give you a relatively close place to start. compared to the original location. And since they'll (probably) be negotiating with Akiha, they might even be able to gain some concessions, since she is comparatively young and inexperienced.

. . . I admit I'm sorely tempted to make this Akiha's (Good?) ending where Shiki is presumed dead - she agrees to host the War since the Grail can bring him back, and Kohaku enters as the Tohno clan's Master. The only question is, do I bend the rules and let her summon Medea as Caster (which shouldn't be possible, since this will be a pure Grail), or go with Frankenstein/Berserker (a doll for a doll, after all)?
