UBW LA Premiere thoughts

Spoiler:

They showed Episode 0, which was a pretty faithful adaptation of the Rin prologue. It starts with her flashback of Tokiomi and there are fairly lengthy sequences of her getting ready and going to school, talking with Mitsuzuri, giving Shinji shit for being a dick.

There is a flashback to when she opens the suitcase Tokiomi left her, which contains both the pendant and the snake fossil catalyst for Gilgamesh. She seems to not realize its significance, though.

All the stuff about the clocks happens like normal and she melts a handful of gems into the summoning circle, blah blah blah. Faithful adaptation means the oodles of exposition, including Servants, Command Spells, and going to the park to talk about Reality Marbles. When Archer talks about how his contract with Rin is complete and she like examines it magically or whatever, it's the sex fish swimming around and leaving a double helix trail.

There's a short sequence of Gilgamesh chatting up Sakura in the street (the audience went wild), but I was the only one who cheered when Lancer showed up. The fight was pretty cool, started with Archer only using Kanshou until it breaks, then he calls up Bakuya. Lancer says his line about disarming Archer 27 times and all that, leaves to skewer Shirou. (Speaking of, we don't see Shirou's face all episode.)

The episode ends as Rin and Archer arrive at Shirou's place and Saber leaps over the wall to attack Archer. Roll credits, play new OP music, crowd shuffles out of the theatre.

Worth noting the soundtrack is pretty cool all around, and a few motifs from the F/Z are still threaded through it.

    Weird question but considering it was an independent theater. How were the seats and the screen?
    Also according to the website there was supposed to be a Q&A session. How was that?

    The inside was pretty normal for a movie theater, just a bit small. Screen quality was maybe a little fuzzy but otherwise fine.

    The Q&A was just a prerecorded interview that they showed before the episode, full of the regular generic PR stuff. The most interesting thing they talked about was that they had three people credited as character designer because it was too much work for one person, and one guy's job was to do all of the cute girls (and the cute men like Kojiro).

    Thanks.
    Wow. So much for wanting to yell at people now.

    Probably the fight. Lots of zooming around and big flashes of light and stuff. Fancy.

    Daaaamn, I wish I was there ;_;
    It's only one week of waiting, but it's when what you seek is the closest that you yearn for it the most.

    When Rin says the "Is this the level of a battle between Servants?" line it actually feels justified unlike the DEEEEEEEEEEEN anime.

    I can't wait.
    This isn't even the best fight!
