EXTRA Shenanigans Part 2: Not Cary Elwes

The actual levels of the Arena aren't too big a deal, even with Nero's
gimped
canon
stat spread, so unless a really notable battle comes up in the future, all I feel the need to say on the matter is that they almost certainly take longer than they used to, and they require more knowledge of enemy attack patterns than I ever really needed before with Saber. No, what you really came here for is the battle against Archer. Or maybe you just got curious because of the title of the post, I don't know.

In any case, my particular limit that I set for this battle, was to not level up my stats until after I won against Archer. Don't get the wrong idea; I still raised them normally for the first few days. However, I set that limit up after Dan used his Command Seal and Archer got penalized. By keeping a good 12-15 points in reserve, I made things fairer for Archer by not taking advantage of his penalized stats. That, alongside Nero's neutered attribute scores to begin with, made this fight easily the most epic and difficult battle I've ever had with the guy.

The bad thing about this playthrough, is that Robin didn't ever get the chance to use his Noble Phantasm. Somehow, after I had cured the poison arrow shot in the first few rounds, Saber managed to perfectly keep herself from being poisoned by any of his subsequent arrows! Amazing what D-rank Luck can do sometimes, isn't it?

The good thing, was that Robin didn't really need it against Saber and me. The real threat of this fight came from Robin's Faceless King technique. For those who either never experienced it somehow, or don't remember, it's that one thing he does when he's low on health, that allows him to perfectly counter all three of the moves right after it. Thing is, I had mispredicted it for a few earlier rounds, so by the time he kept bringing that out, I had absolutely no MP to counter his attacks with at least one Veil of Petals. All I could do at that point is heal Saber at a good enough moment to prevent her from dying to those counters.

Miraculously, I was able to somehow eke out a win without having to restart... which is not quite something I can say about my fight with a certain little girl. But you'll have to hear about that a little later.

Well they aren't literally penalized gameplay-wise, it's just said it is in the story. Also if like someone's stats are penalized then you're going to profit no matter how low your stats are, because your advantage has nothing to do with you.

Are you going to like a blog form of a let's play here?

To be fair, we never actually got to fight the guy when he wasn't penalized, so we wouldn't have been able to observe any difference in effectiveness or damage to begin with. Actually, on that note, are the stats we see in the Matrix Robin's normal stats, or do they take that penalty into account?

Anyway, I distinctly remember utterly wrecking him in previous playthroughs by just putting in the points normally. That whole constraint I set up for myself is to make things more exciting in general, and to also limit my Servant and make things more "honorable", even if it has no bearing on the actual plot. Think of it like that one scene in Zero where Saber intentionally grips her Excalibur as if she was still wounded, when fighting Diarmuid for the last time, except non-canon. Also, I was on the cusp of leveling up, and I really wanted to feel like I earned it

Moving on, I wouldn't exactly call this a let's play, as I'm mainly focusing on gameplay details instead of just showing people the story and stuff. There's already an excellent Let's Play by Laith, though, if you haven't checked it out already...

No one knows; but those stats are already pretty good for someone who isn't a proper heroic spirit so probably the former.
