fortissimo//Wiederbelebung der Seele English Translations Part 1

Rate this Entry
The official fortissimo//Wiederbelebung der Seele English Translation Project is a go. Finally bought the Dragon Magazines that contained all three chapters of the fortissimo Light Novel, so let's see what it has in store for us. It's not an exact translation, but I hope it is close to it enough. Some things I will change from the original text to make things flow better. I will be updating this whenever I have free time translating it.

Episode 1

A white plastic bag from the supermarket was in my hand. The bitter melon and coconut pushed idly forward towards the pack of pork.

It was already night for quite a while now.

Swinging the shopping bag back and forth like a pendulum, I, Yoshino Reiji, continue walking down the farming route from school. On one side of the road, there was a sugarcane field.

It was my turn to gather the ingredients for dinner today.

For a number of reasons, Reiji began living with his younger sister who was the same age as him, even though they were not blood related. Incidentally, he also had to care and feed the self-proclaimed “spirit of the cherry blossom tree” spunky freeloader named Sakura (though that name was the same name as the Sakura tree). Reiji also had a guardian, though she rarely comes home.

The tall sugarcane, which was properly trimmed, shook in response to the light breeze and waved back and forth. It was a very soothing breeze.

Tsukiyomi-jima Island was located at the southwestern coast of Japan. Many vegetables and fruits grew in the South. People would be surprised to see how delicious the products sold at farm markets would be. A lot of thick green melons would be piled up, emitting a fresh blue scent. At that time, I pictured myself as someone of royalty in a kitchen when I picked up the melon. Well, green curry with bitter melons to be correct. Oh, that image is gone already. Green paste and coconut milk. When one eats both in the summer, the sweet and bitter taste reflects the hot summer day itself.

I left the market in high spirits. A slight whir can be heard as I unintentionally waved the bag.

At one time, Sakura said “Huh, if you say so…” as she took a bite into the bitter melon. Because for that girl, her taste was like that of a child’s.

“IT’S SO BITTER!!!”

Sakura yelled as tears began to form in her eyes. Although it was a careless mistake, that girl really is hopeless.

Reiji halted in his tracks and thought about it for a bit.

“Oh, was it really that good?”

It was already too late to change the menu. Reiji will probably let Sakura eat it even if she cries.

Reiji did not react to the current situation around him. Because he was lost in thought, he did not notice the person who walked behind him even when the farm road was vacant. Soon after, the sound of their footsteps changed when they walked out of the sandy path and onto an asphalt road. Just as he looked back, Reiji felt something closing in right next to his face.

“Uwa?!”

A policeman swung down his baton onto Reiji’s shoulder, grazing it. Reiji instantly dropped his shopping bag and created a distance between him and the officer. The policeman was in front of him. He wore a darkish blue uniform. His sharp eyes gleamed at him. The only word that flashed in Reiji’s mind was “why”, but he quickly shook it off. He can think about that later. The policeman swung his baton again. Reiji stepped forward lightly. He then twisted his body and kicked upwards, knocking the baton away with the bottom of his shoe. What happened next was purely accidental. The impact from the baton was like that of kicking a brick, and Reiji lost his balance. His left foot swung down at the last second, hammering down on the policeman’s head cleanly. The policeman let out a strange groan before falling flat on the ground. Only silence remained. The sound of insects echoed in the background. Reiji looked down on the unconscious policeman.

“Well, for the time being I’ll dial 110---No, there’s a policeman here after all.”

Reiji squats down and shakes the policeman’s body. There was no reaction from him at all. Reiji then looked around his surroundings.

“What to do now…”

“Master is a meanie.”

At a small park, Sakura leans over as she places her butt on a wooden bench. The weather is as clear as day. The sunshine was warm enough to melt people’s hearts. Cuddling her foot was the dog, Maota. He was her best friend. Sakura was not a student, nor did she work at part-time jobs. There was nothing in the world she could do but eat. After all, she had all the time in the world to do so. After Maota’s owner gave her permission, Sakura took him on his daily walk.

“Hmm, the potato curry last night was delicious, but I still have that painful taste in my mouth. Even though he knew my weakness was spicy food.”

Maota cocks his head in confusion as he barks at her.

“The food was very bitter too. How can Master and Sayuki-chan be so calm from such bitterness? I don’t understand why they like eating bitter food!”

Maota wags his tail like a fish.

“I mean, I was waiting for a ‘You wa shock!’ sign to pop out. I even looked around restlessly for the jaws of death.”

Maota starts scratching the back of his neck with his hind leg, as Sakura continues her one-sided conversation.

“Hah. Maybe, I’m getting bored listening to myself talk. The crisis of perception is in three years for three months and three days! I’m can’t just get cynical like this! Partners should understand each other and have a fresh start! Now I finally get what the white-haired MC was trying to say on the afternoon program!”

Maota soon cuddled himself and slept.

“Hey! Maota! I really wanted you to listen to me!”

Sakura swayed Maota’s body back and forth. Maota then rolled in the other direction, making things more difficult.

“It’s impossible to listen to such a story seriously.”

“Wah! Maota talked!”

“Though it is something worth to be angry about. There there.”

Sakura looked up to the direction of the voice.

“Because I happen to hear a strange soliloquy as I was passing by, I couldn’t help but listen to the rest of it.”

Before anyone was aware, a thin young man shoved his hands in his pocket and stood up. He was the same age as Sakura’s master, Yoshino Reiji.

“You’re…could it be…who are you again? Oh, it’s you!”

“Even though I made you remember it properly.”

“I’m bad with names and I can’t remember everyone I see through my Master’s eyes!”

Kirisaki Kengo.

“Don’t forget my name! It’s Kirisaki Kengo, remember it. Well, any other info would burn the correct any answer for the time being. Though, I’m glad I hit the bull’s eye.”

Whose?

“Some people have scary eyes that others can never sleep if they see it.”

“Are your eyes scary?”

The young man knows Sakura asked that without any ill-intent, and strained his face.

“…Hmm, you could say that. So, did you two have a quarrel or something?”

“It was not a quarrel.”

“Then, what are you anxious about?”

“It wasn’t a quarrel, but Master wasn’t taking very good care of me!”

Sakura moved her arms up and down alternatively, like a child throwing a tantrum.

“I can hear you clearly without looking at you.”

“Kirisaki-kun, what I’m trying to say is…Master said some mean things to me!”

“Ho, why?”

“Because I only eat free food.”

“Hmm. You’re indeed a good-for-nothing weapon.”

“Eh?”

“You’re fuel consumption is inefficient.”

“Hoho…Wait! That’s a cruel way to put it!”

“No, I believe Yoshi-yan has a point.”

Kirisaki strokes his chin while letting out a smirk.

“I just got an idea.”

He turned his face to Sakura.

“Forget about the inefficient fuel consumption. Wouldn’t it be efficient if you just live throughout the day being exposed by sunlight and nature? Oh, I get it now. How could I carelessly forget about that! You’re not a human to begin with.”

“That’s right. I’m the spirit of the Sakura tree. I’m a special “Mahou” that can live on the Earth by just basking in the sun."

“Strategic Destruction Magic Weapon (Mahou)”. The weapons which the Gods wielded in the mythical era. Now, these dangerous weapons are synthesized using science beyond human intelligence---the historical phenomenon known as “Magic”. The holy sword “Tyrfing”. The thunder god’s hammer Mjölnir. The God’s chain Gleipnir. These weapons probably existed during the ancient times, and have been stirred up by the gods. No, because it was a God, it probably didn’t exist until then. Those weapons were what made them become Gods themselves. The weapons of the Gods now exist in this modern era. It was probably excavated from the bottom of the Earth some time in the past. They came in the form of a stone that shined beautifully. The weapons were synthesized so that they would bind to whoever accepts their “contract” when they obtained the stone, granting them a mystical force within their body. The “Strategic Destruction Magic Weapon” fuses into their users, and they can wield these mythical-class weapons. There is a high chance that the weapons are the embodiment of their true selves. A shining magical sword will form if you have an aptitude of using a sword. A God’s spear will form if you have an aptitude of using a spear. A magical gun will form if you have an aptitude of using a gun. In many cases, these magic weapons symbolize and forms a weapon based on the owner’s ego.

However.

Somehow, Yoshino Reiji’s “Strategic Destruction Magic Weapon (Mahou)” did not take the form of a magical weapon. Instead, it formed a human teenage girl. Moreover, she does not resemble a weapon at all, so it must have been a human girl Reiji was thinking of at the time…

“Hmm, so you can generate magic using light energy?”

“That’s right. I’m the spirit of the Sakura tree that has lived on this island for many years. Master brought me into existence as a “Strategic Destruction Magic Weapon (Mahou)”. Also, my mana source comes from the sun.”

“So, you eat meals and never sleep?”

“Food is for a different stomach.”

“This is my first time hearing food was for a different stomach.”

“Also, during dinnertime with Master and Sayuki-chan, I took my index finger and bathed it in a light bulb. I felt so lonely I could’ve died at the time. And I also loved delicious things.”

“Well, if you worked part-time to pay for the food expenses, then you can escape your master’s insults of eating free food for the time being.”

“B-But, I have to fully bask in the sun every day. If I don’t absorb sufficient amounts of sunlight, it is impossible for me to work at my best.”

It was getting troublesome.

Kirisaki Kengo’s expression went grim…

“Then, I can probably introduce you to a place where you can work outside in the hot weather.”

“Really?”

“If you’re that hopeful then, what kind of work can you do?”

“Well um, if it’s all day and the sun is no longer a problem, then will I get paid in this job?”

…It’s useless after all. (love how one of the translators said “I’m done with this shit.”)

“But, Master told me “SIT RIGHT THERE AND LISTEN!” and lectured me for one hour about getting a part-time job. Why?”

“Aa…Yoshi-yan, I look up to you as the wisest man in the world right now.”

Kirisaki glanced at the idiotic girl who didn't have to deal with any hardships in life, and knew that he had to be more innovative to get her to get a job...
