Your course teaches katakana before hiragana? That's... odd.

@Mcjon01 - Well, katakana are used for loan words and the like. And this is just the intro level course - the intermediate course, afaik, focuses almost solely on hiragana.

Intro level or not, you're supposed to learn hiragana first.

This makes no sense. It is like trying to teach More Code before you learn the alphabet.

Both hiragana and katakana should be finished by the end of an intro course -- you literally can't function without them!
