The up side of being in between jobs is that you can catch up a lot on stuff that slipped by when you have a busy work schedule; video games, netflix, books writing, all that jazz. Downside is that it's lonely, all my friends from sixth form when off all over the country for uni while I went into work and my girlfriend is the stay-at-home type. Aside from her, I haven't really seen anyone else as of late.
That is till I find out a few friends are coming back down from wales for the weekend to celebrate his 21st.
We started up meeting at his place, there was dancing, there was drinking games (turns out i am absolutely awful at beer pong), there was catching up with people I hadn't seen in a few years and meeting a few people who had come down from wales and bonding over the combination of tequila, salt and lime.
After that we hopped in a taxi and went to local the bar in the city. All of us were jazzing it up on the tiny dancefloor (turns out drinking improves my dancing). One of the guys told me that he wanted to pick up girls with me so we could all get 'lucky' as it were, after telling him I've been in a relationship for three years and that it really wasn't an issue.
Next up was the next round of drinks at the bar and people are hitting on each other. Fortunately for me, I have now learned how to turn people down when they hit on me.
Technique for turning people down when you don't have the guts to outright say 'No Thanks':
- Casually mention you're in a committed relationship and very much in love with your partner.
- See who else the person is making eyes at and redirect their attention (in my case the dude who wanted to pick up girls with me.
- When they fuck up their ankle, help them walk and be supportive and so they now firmly think of you as a platonic friend.
- Was not needed this time but when worst comes to worst, leg it. Has saved me in the past.
Next up was hitting the clubs. As it was a birthday party, entree fee was reduced. There was also a free round of... vodka I think. I don't know what it was exactly, we were all hiding the fact we were all sloshed at this point. There was more alcohol, more dancing, more music so loud I could barely hear myself speak and some successful wingmaning on my part.
Next thing we know it's 4am and we're eating at a knockoff kfc we take a taxi back to where we started the party. Some get it on, some pass out, I fell asleep on the floor. We wake up early afternoon, I thank everyone for a good time, wander home and have breakfast. We're gonna do it again soon.
