How to have a summer from Hell: Wind up over $5000 in the hole.

And the sad part is, it might not even end soon.
To keep a VERY long story short, a co-worker of mine is going through some extremely rough times. I, being the sort of guy I am, have helped her out to the tune of literally thousands of dollars - yes, I trust my co-worker, and she's borrowed large sums from me before and paid them back both early and down to the last cent. And then when that began to run out, a few rather nice friends of mine helped me in my cause to keep her going, and try to keep their life in some semblance of order. It's really only thanks to those two people that we're even where we are now, as if we were going strictly off my own funds, I'd have had to throw in the towel about $2000 ago.
But now I'm just about at the limits of being able to help her. I'm scared as hell. There's supposed to be some checks coming that will relieve our problems sharply, but the government has been fighting her on those and demanding more money before they get released. And if we run out of the funds to fight whatever other bullshit pops up between then and now, there go the checks (because the things tend to be of the "pay this or we're arresting you" type of bullshit), and there goes my co-worker's job (because then she has to care for the grandkids, which are normally her daughter's responsibility).
Supposedly those are now being processed and she will have them no later than next Friday. But as they're in her daughter's name, she needs to be free in order to get them deposited. And seeing as for some reason all sorts of people are trying to get her daughter arrested... well, I'm holding my breath and waiting. And hoping I don't have to ask those people who've been helping me for even more money. One's already made it clear they really can't afford more. The other, I'm stretching their finances mighty thin, and they need to be paid back by Christmas.
I go back to work on Tuesday, but my first paycheck from work won't be until near the end of the month, and that one will immediately go on the share of the bills I pay for next month. If those checks don't come in, I have pretty much zero disposable income until mid-October. And that's because almost every cent of spare income I've had has gone towards trying to keep my co-worker's life from completely falling apart.
And that's still plenty of time in which it can fall apart if those checks don't come.
Fuck me. Having no money sucks, especially when two months ago I had literally thousands in my bank account. This was a summer from Hell and I didn't really get to enjoy my summer vacation at all thanks to any of this shit.
God I hope nothing more happens in the next week.
PS: Now over $5000. $40 more to investigate whoever ran up hospital bills in her name, but it was provably not my co-worker's daughter because they fucked up her middle name. $5015 owed now as of this moment.
