My trusty old iPod Classic has gone up to that big Apple store in the sky.

It crashed a few days ago when I was out shopping with my mom and my sister. I tried doing a quick Restore on it through my iTunes, and suspected deeper problems were going on when my iTunes didn't even register the existence of my iPod. I ended up taking it to an Apple store today with my dad near home, and yep, it's pretty much dead.

The server crashed, basically. The hardware isn't being recognized, so there's nothing they can do to fix it. I kind of expected it to happen, it was at least three years old, but it was still a bit of a shock since it was working perfectly fine up until it died.

Next step for now before I consider trying to buy a new iPod is fiddling with my mom's old blue iPod Nano; she said I could have it when my iPod Classic first crashed, so I'm going to mess around with it a bit today and see if maybe I can get it working with my iTunes and use that instead of having to invest over a hundred bucks into a completely new machine.

I mean, my dad's made it clear that at the very least, I'll be getting a new iPod Nano. I'd just prefer to not spend the money in our current financial situation unless we absolutely have to.

On the plus side, my iTunes still works! I'd be so fucked if I lost that.

Sorry to hear about your Ipod. At least you backed up most of your stuff and will put it own the new Ipod. Technology is always improving, that's why I'm going to work for my future in computers. And those Ipods is neat, although I wished they can be made to be unbreakable and don't crash as much.

I'm surprised they're willing to maintain a big Apple store in the sky.

You would think that would suck up profits like crazy.

    I lost iTunes once...

    *shudders*

    So much music gone.

At least you didn't lose iTunes, but what's the chance of-

Almost said something I really shouldn't.

Sorry for the loss... but really, iPods are damn overpriced period. Apple's markups on anything is really ridiculous.

Probably would be less expensive to buy a PSP classic, a 32 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, and flash it with custom firmware. And hey, that can play games too.

Ugh, sucks. Hopefully your mom's iPod is a valid replacement? I know that your iPod is a thing of joy to you.

Sorry about the ipod. Though 3 years doesn't seem like an edge...
My iPT is now 2 years old and still works perfectly as the first day. I can't imagine life without it (I had to! For two days. Worst two days past two years evar.)

But people, are you serious about using iTunes as your music store? That just sounds so wild to me, no offense meant. Like, I tried using it so (it FORCED ME to), and to say, it isn't worth it. Have your music mp3-d/flac'd somewhere on your trusty drive with a trusty backup on another trusty drive. Unless you're buying music from itunes. *shruggles* Even so, I don't think it's a crime to have your bought music mp3'd to your drive. So this

brings some sadness to my heart. Not meaning to say "your ways are wrong!", but... oh well.

If you don't mind having your music on something the approximate size and weight of a brick...

Well, psp's indeed not too handy for a player. Maybe I'm being a fanboy, but ipod touch is just the best solution for me. 64 gb of whatever including music, videos, games (and manga! \o/) on a quite thin(mine's 3g, the still thin one)/lightweight and portable (pocket-able! unlike psp in some cases :/) is just perfect IMO.
    A bit more expensive though...

I have an iPod touch too, I quite like it. Only real flaw is having to deal with iTunes (that program is absolutely terrible, it crashes every second time I open it).

(I love my PSP too, but that's for games, not music!)

See what I told you about itunes! Now try dealing with -alternate programs for it-

    Spoiler:

CopyTransManager (is what I use, it's free and better than itunes. I think it even has a function to sync with itunes so you can get the songs you have there, I think? Or not)

    imTOO Ipod Computer Transfer
    - if you like to pay for programs. It's a very good one, and it surely has the itunes sync function, but it costs money. :c
P.P.P.S.: About this one, it sometimes fucked up my library on ipod (idk why actually, maybe because I stole borrowed it, but it started sorting stuff in a weird way - like, under "J" were songs starting with "K" and everything was shifted, it got kinda annoying. But I got rid of after re-syncing with CopyTransManager.

Or get pro! Make your own program for that! You can browse your ipod alright on most *nix systems easily.

P.P.S I don't really remember if iTunes stores bought music in a .onlyitunescanreadthisgtfo format or in normal mp3s somewhere. In second case any of those programs would do anyway, just get songs from iTunes appdata folder. On windows, I mean.

Ah, I didn't mean any offense. A majority of my music is actually on my old CDs, I only have over 200 of them on my iTunes, so that's what I spend most of my time listening to.

I meant that I don't mean offense by basically saying "itunes sucks! you're doing it wrong!".. TзT
Though I somehow pity people using itunes (which is offensive to them :c )
