I completely forgot to mention the reason why I even brought up CCC at the top of the post. It's because Sakura has a lot of ideas from FSN HF get rehashed for her in CCC (it's not just a copy paste job but the inspiration is criminally obvious) and I personally have my liking of her(them?) in CCC massively enhanced now that I have finished HF as it allows me to understand her(them?) way more now.

I always thought that Shirou liking Kirei made a lot of sense, as Shirou is kinda what Kirei wanted to see in Kiritsugu. Also having Shirou vs Kirei in the Reality Marble would make the fight even better on a philosophical level, as it represents the essence of Shirou.

I definitely agree with how you feel, and the best usage of the reality marble in a fight was Shirou vs Archer but it never got used to enhance the themes of a battle otherwise so that could be pretty interesting.

I'm going to be honest I went with this format because I was too scared to jump into a fanfic immediately, I struggle with writing consistency even in my own time so I tend to be very slow, but it's even way scarier because it's fanfic of something that I didn't create (plenty of pressure to understand the essence of something you didn't make) and also it's on a forum like this one where any given person could have a very convincing point of view and a well written list of flaws. Despite that, it's at least a little encouraging that the idea resonated with you enough to check it out. I appreciate that.

The Shirou here is mostly his UBW version, though I haven't sat down and thought about it I wouldn't be surprised if there was a tiny bit more focus on Avalon/Excalibur because he's closer to Saber (cuz of merging the routes). I do think I want him to know of Avalon's existence inside him which he doesn't in some of the timelines. I can even see him tossing the real one to Saber before the Gil fight because this version has a reality marble he can fight Kirei with, which simultaneously could be written into a strong character moment where he willingly gives up the overpowered healing he has to "fight his own battles on an equal playing field", sort of. Just ideas stirred by your question but that's the sort of stuff that I'd be brainstorming to write this either way I suppose.
