Honestly, I always get the impression that BL's actually a comfortable forum. This is coming from the person who actually can't stay in a forum for even a month. As such, I was the total definition of forum noob when I first joined BL, but I'm honestly surprised at myself for having managed to stay here until now.

Of course, I rarely go to RT because I honestly can't keep up with the flow of the posts. So I don't really know x poster personally. In my opinion, GD has good people. Granted, most of them are veterans. Even then, there are those who seems hostile whenever they are replying to a post, but I always leave that to differing ethics and coming from my own perception.

Now that I think about it, I think I saw Prix and Ratman being attacked in GD before. I guess I am starting to see your point.

Personally, I went from a shy poster to just a poster who try to goof around whenever I sees the gap. (I blame Tobias)

Well, after reading the blog post and comments I can't really find anything to disagree with.

Well, the general principle is the same for any newcomer to a specific social circle imo. I think that if you take your time to listen at least as much as you talk and not express your personality in another's face right from the start, you'll do well.

You're right for general forum cred Bridge, but if people click individually for whatever reason you can't exactly expect the more experienced person to go 'oh no I shouldn't, they're new and need to earn their place'.

All sorts of factors go in, obviously. To make the most obvious example, TM cred is a major cleavage.

But the general principle of newbieness in internet forums isn't one really left to arguing, I believe .

I don't really feel much of a distinction. There are certain "cliques" who have befriended each other and talk not just in BL but elsewhere and you probably need to get over some hurdles if you want to be a part of them, but otherwise except for the very beginning I've never really felt as a newb and I haven't felt like others consider me one.
