    Caster is best Servant.

As someone who played this game like five times, I totally comprehend your unwillingness to suffer through it more than twice. The bonus boss is fun so you'll have motivation for the second round.

Berserker Lu Bu is interesting in that if he wasn't a Berserker he would have betrayed Rani first thing.
Basically, "the shit we have to do to make him usable."

I get the feeling. I should have done Red Saber first because I've only roughly halfway through my third run through /EXTRA and I have like zero motivation to complete it. Not because I don't like Nero, but the lack of true replay value outside of different Servants and the fact that my control stick sticks like gum and makes movement a pain to navigate doesn't help me out.

    Necessary evils

Nasu hasn't had much to say about any of these things other than telling us character A exists and scenario B may happen. I'm not big on hijacking a pre existing setting with personal twists. I could just go original in that case. But I do like worldbuilding, which is all that's left to me when I have so little to go on.

Not long after posting this, a man suffered chemical burns to his face, mouth and nose. He was a new hire who has only been at the brewery for about a month, and he was pouring chemicals into a bucket while kneeling over it too closely.

    I am so dead.

Turtling up and moving as one, big unit typically does give me less of a headache than the scattershot method. The cavaliers are the exception to that rule. They kick ass at everything they do no matter how stranded they may be.

Not that it matters. I'm indefinitely shelving my Fire Emblem phase. It's too much hassle to be any real fun.

I realized 90% of my rage was rooted in forcing myself to replay a level 3 to 5 times every time a character died in the last two turns.

And it's always in the last two turns, so I can either forge ahead without them or waste another ten to twenty minutes going back to the beginning.

    Fuck this game!

You can throw Tana, Artur and Tethys on the dead pile.

I don't care about Tana because she was awful, but Artur and Tethys really got to me. Artur was one of my best guys, and Tethys's take-another-turn mechanic was delicious for the two stages it lasted.

There's a slim silver lining in that the game keeps throwing new characters at me so that I'm never running low on soldiers, but I want my A-listers back.

I also take back all the mean things I said about Eimi. She suddenly got great around level 7, which makes it the second time someone I was ignoring turned out to be a hidden gem. That's the one good thing the game has going for it with the perma-death mechanic: It forces me to use my full roster, experimenting with who works and who doesn't.

(I still want Ross, Artur and Tethys back, though.)

I'm starting to pick up some promotion items, so it's time to start blundering through that aspect of the game. I wonder how badly I will screw myself over with this mechanic before I finally get it.

This. You can have whatever you want in your inventory, it's only about equipped weapon weight. (and BLD, if FE5)

The game has the two routes, which incentivizes going back and doing things a bit differently. I may use the character's on Ephraim's route I'm neglecting on Eirika's.

Like the Rutger mission how did anyone not lose a character on that without savescumming holy shit.
Or the Linus/Lloyd one. Let's have a mission about endless scores of enemies BUT let's have myrmidion/hero boss at the end and let's also give him Light Brand because it will be fun to replay the mission over and over again after he always inevitably crits.

Since you're playing Rekka no Ken's first route, here's a bunch of advice:
    - Eliwood promotes at something like mission 20. Don't give him kills or he becomes an exp sink. And fuck Eliwood in Eliwood's route. Use the fuck out of Hector instead. Matter of fact, he's the true MC of the game.
    - Myrmidions are broken. Get Guy for your first playthrough and use him, it will make a lot of the game less autistic.
    - DON'T LOSE FLORINA like half of the game's intended puzzle scenarios rely on the assumption that you have Florina.
    - Dark magic is broken. Canas is also very good even for a shaman. Anima magic is really nerfed from Binding Blade, but all the mages you get including Erk are amazing to make up for it.
    - Ranged magic is basically a win button. Conserve it.
    - Training Serra and Priscilla will eventualy really pay off if you do. Hitting with offensive staves gives much more experience than healing.
    - Weight limit exists in the game. If a character is carrying too much, he won't be able to double enemy units. The game never tells you this, but don't shove four weapons and a healing item on everything just because you can.
    - Relatedly, Thieves can steal. But they can only do that when their inventory has an empty spot in it, and if there is a lot to take from units, you can end up passing some of the loot to other units with them until you get Merlinus. It's a good idea to check enemy inventories before the start of the mission - everything that's not a weapon or green is stealable.
    - FOR THIS VERY REASON, DON'T LOSE MATTHEW IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE GAME OR YOU'RE FUCKED
