  1. Young Justice (again)

by , June 12th, 2014 at 04:08 PM (Imperial Privilege)
    HERE THERE BE SPOILERS

So I finished my YJ marathon, and I have to say that was a heartbreaker. Things really picked up as the show moved along, and the powers-that-be pull the cord after an incredible framework is being laid for season 3. It feels like that would have been the final season, too. How else are you going to top Darkseid?

The plans and counter-plans made the whole thing feel more like a game of chess than the usual, face-punching heroic antics. It gave ...
  2. Young Justice

I'm way behind the curve on this show, but it's that Greg Weisman (Gargoyles)-helmed DC show that seemed to be trying to tap into the residual fan base from the much goofier Teen Titans show in a roundabout way.

Why, yes, I am a geek.

Eight episodes in and I'm disappointed. A show with YJ's creative staff behind it has no business being so ho-hum. It's not out-and-out awful, but it's very much a paint-by-numbers affair. The protagonists feel like archetypes more than ...

  3. MARVEL MADNESS!

I'm on a Marvel comics movie kick right now.

I just saw X-Men Days of Future Past with my girlfriend last night, and we watched First Class together the night before so she wouldn't be going in blind. (She was there mostly for Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender. She remarked during First Class, "Man, I would fuck her.") All I'm missing now is the Wolverine-in-Japan movie, but the first Wolverine solo left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll probably get around to it ...
  4. That's probably not the best reaction I could have

Reading A-list authors like Moczo and Velsper and Zalgo and Elf and Arashi and I3uster and Bloble and why-is-everyone-on-BL-so-good gives me a warped sense of admiration, inspiration and trepidation. I want to write like our local literary giants, but my barely-there self esteem makes me think there is no point. I will never be as good as them, so why bother?

None of them got there over night. They honed a skill. So I have to start somewhere.

And I have made a few token ...

  5. Holiday Humdrum

by , December 17th, 2013 at 01:08 AM (Imperial Privilege)
I like the holiday season for the most part, but I've never been especially fond of the dry spell between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I'll tell you a bit about myself so you can understand why that is.

You see, I'm a 25-year-old college graduate bumming around my college town as I try to figure out my life and avoid moving back home. I love my parents, but they're a bit overprotective. Moving back home would suffocate any semblance of privacy and a social life I could ...
