model number is KG-0851 and FCC ID is E8HKG-0851. it is a hp wireless keyboard. Dont remember how much it cost, it came with my desktop computer a couple years ago but I switched it to my laptop.

I replaced the keyboard on my Dell laptop using a $12 eBay replacement. I don't know what kind of laptop you're using, but I would suggest fixing the heart of the problem (physically broken keyboard) if you have the time to do so.

Broken Keyboard, its not a feature, its the keyboard malfunction, had this happen to an old one I used to have where I couldn't figure out why it was doing it and what could have done it.

Just fork over 20$ or so for a new one.

I thought of that too, but since the offset is consistent for both computers (right ctrl triggers shift + ctrl, and left ctrl always opens windows live mail) I think it might be some annoying ass keyboard 'feature' I accidentally turned on without realizing.

After inspecting the keyboard a couple times though I still have no idea how I might have triggered such a feature... and the manual got thrown out a long time ago too.

Drivers are programs that install themself (and are normally updated whenever you replug it in or done manually) when you plug it in (Either via USB or on some computers the port in the back near headphones and whatnot). I say this because I interpreted how you replied to Mike as you not fully understanding what a Driver was. He's saying you should try messing around by manually redownloading the drivers from the companies website (for instance if I had a Logitech Keyboard I would go to the Logitech website got to the support/download page select the keyboard and go to downloads and redownload the drivers and hopefully fix it).

If you know about this and I'm just stating the obvious ignore this post.

If it's happening on only one keyboard but for multiple computers, then it's either a driver issue or the keyboard is broken and certain keys are getting pressed when you don't want them to be. Given what you said about the right ctrl key, my guess would be that your computer is treating a press of the shift key as a press of the ctrl key instead.

Went back to my desktop for now because it's easier to type until I get this issue solved.

Thanks, but although I know I have the worst luck for a whole lot of things, I think this is more because I spend a lot of time around computers.

Assuming a similar error encounter rate for everyone, I probably have a larger number of encounters and thus wind up seeing a proportionately larger number of problems. :\

Anyway, how would I undo a ctrl/alt sticky?

Video out. You know, like VGA and HDMI ports so you can plug in an external monitor. Netbooks generally have very tiny, low-resolution screens after all.

As for recommendations, I can't really say. Back when I bought mine a long time ago, the Asus eee pc was the top dog, don't know if the market has changed since then. Price range is generally between 150 and 500 US dollars depending on model, but only you know what features you would need, so I have no idea if the super-cheap versions are good enough.

Still, I guarantee my "buy a computer you don't mind taking to school" plan is the one with the highest chances of success.

Tell me more, what are these video out bells and whistles of which you speak and how do they work? What rand would you recommend? Average price?

Next time try sleeping with Theocrass.

I hear that solves most problems.
