I've seen this before. Never fails to amaze me.
I completely forgot about the Infirmary thing. Yes. Abuse that.
1. Orpheus is one of the most important personas in the entire game, but in a metaphorical sense only. 2. Save a lot. You won't die a lot, but it's easy to die in the game and it's especially frustrating when you've grinded for several hours. 3. If you plan on two cycles then play freely and don't consult any walkthroughs. On your second playthrough, use a guide to max all S. Links because it's quite tricky to max the S.Links w/o proper planning (at least in the FES version) 4. If you get sick always stay up late so that your character stays sick for longer periods. Why? Because you can speak to the nurse everyday to get a free courage boost that don't cost the day. 5. DO NOT PLAY THE ANSWER. Just Youtube it. 6. You'll come across "Ruby" items in the game. Save them for the Armageddon skill card. Here's something I did in my P3P playthrough: Save up all boost cards you get and never use them -> Maximize Magician Arcana as soon as possible -> Get Surt (lvl 50 something Magician persona) -> Buff the hell out of him with the boost cards (focus on Magic) -> Get Maragidyne on Surt -> Give Surt Auto-Tarukaja -> Equip Auto-Sukujka -> Start every battle with a Maragidyne -> OHKO battles for several floors Surt also learns Ragnarock which is a very nice way to OHKO (or cripple) enemy bosses. Especially so if you have Mind boost. Those are some basic things, but its best you experience the rest for yourself.
Orpheus is persona fodder. There is no important persona, and if you are 5+ levels higher than the Persona levels, its time to fuse. Also, The Reaper has a target limit of like 10 minutes or so per floor. This is cut in half, three quarters on rare rooms. And I hope you are making use of the infirmary after every Tartarus raid when you are tired. Three free courage boosts are nothing to scoff at.
since you're playing portable, just level things until you get the skill card. then fuse everything until you get a lulz demon that supports everything. Much easier to do since you can force skills on them with a skill card.
^
Don't bother leveling Orpheus. Fuse that bitch.
Oh, and for veteran players, should I be leveling Orpheus? depends on which version of the game you're playing. he's mostly useless except to fuse with thanatos to form messiah BUT NONE OF YOU WARNED ME ABOUT DEATH! he has a time limit trigger
Wanna make it worse? Imagine if Clint Eastwood Voiced Death with his Dirty Harry Persona. Nightmares~
...I'm going to be grabbing this within the next few months, along with any other PSP Persona game I can get my grubby little mitts on.
If you leave the party on auto, I hope you enjoy MARIN FUCKING KARIN
CAST BUFU
You're not going to 100% it on your first run, and this will piss you off. Not without a guide at least. Anyway, early on try and get a persona with Bufu, Agi, Zio, and Garu. It's really fucking useful. Don't worry too much about Hama/Mudo, they can be useful but eh. If you fight a gold hand, don't waste time with spells or whatever, just bum rush it with triangle. Oh, and try and do every sidequest you can.
As Irothtin mentioned, for me the biggest improvement to Portable is that now there are more things in the game to let you grind Tartarus as needed without screwing you out of the other cool parts of the game, like Social Links. Learn about and take advantage of these.
In Portable, unlike FES, you can grind indefinitely in a single day without getting tired until the next. Abuse this. Also unlike FES, you can buy three Yawn-Be-Gones in the school shop every Saturday. Abuse this. You get substantially more experience the less party members you use at once. Abuse this. Skill cards let you teach Personas moves they shouldn't have. Abuse them. Stat boost cards can be gotten from the Antique shop and can let you become more powerful than you should be. Abuse them. The arcade and movie theater give the best parameter boosts, but they are expensive. Grind lots of money in Tartarus and abuse them. You're also going to want to have a Persona of the matching Arcana for most Social Links.
My recommendation: when it's night, go into Tartarus immediately, and go as far as you can manage. Spend as few nights as you can in Tartarus so that you can get nice social links and stuff.

I don't think I have enough time left to make it. Lv. 90 is complete overkill, even for the final boss. It should be more around the lower-mid 70's, but anyways the game is more about strategy than just levels. The key is to keep a wide variety of personas, so that you can manage any situation effectively. Also, make sure to complete the challenges given to you by a certain person as soon as you can, as they provide easy money, weapons, and most importantly, items needed to create the fusion components for some of the strongest personas in the game.

Not to discourage you or anything, Sei, but I've just never seen an adopted story work out or done well. Not to say that you won't be fantastic. Just ... concerned. No, maybe that's the wrong word. ARGH WHY YOU NO WORK GOOD BRAIN Whatever. I hope you prove me wrong!
Supposedly I was going to continue one of Leo's stories, but sadly he never handed me the notes for it. :/ Leo no baka!
