xm's randomity on Type-Moon and other weirdness

So I've played the first Melty Blood now. Melty Blood React Final Tuned. Now I've finally seen the backstory behind Melty Blood, all the weird shit in the series makes a little more sense.

-Sadly, this game is less refined than Act Cadenza. Should be obvious. This pales compared to the most recent Blaz Blue, for example. And while Aoko and White Len show up in the arcade mode, you can't play as them! And unlike in Act Cadenza, I suck as Hisui! At least I still dominate as Ciel, Kohaku, and Mecha Hisui.

-Now I finally know who Sion is. And I forgot how cool Shiki can be, too. I like the premise of the Tatari. Obviously, this isn't as deep as Tsukihime, but it at least beats out my complaints about Fate. ("They talk . . . and talk . . . and talk . . . and talk . . . and talk . . . and talk, then decide to kill each other. Here, they talk . . . and talk . . . then kill one another.")

-"Hey XM, what about Actress Agai-" DON'T! FUCKING! ASK!!!!!!! You know, this is why I always bought PC games with a CD key in the past, only now, I don't want to blow 100+ plus dollars just to import a game I might not like as much as Guilty Gear or Blaz Blue so . . . ya want someone's opinion on Actress Again, ask someone else. (On the other hand, I've got Actress Again's soundtrack. It's awesome.)

Oh, but that's not the only thing with Aoko in it that caught my eye recently. Guess what else I did recently?

I watched the demo of Witch on the Holy night in English on Youtube. Or "ma ho, yo" for the hip fans here.

-First thing that caught my attention was the visuals. There's a lot more graphical effects here than in any other VN I've seen, and everything is gorgeously rendered. I mean, even though it's mostly still images, it's fucking movie quality art! Put this in your pipe and smoke it, Studio Ghibli!

-And that music. Okay, obviously not as good as the music in Umineko, (Then again, what can compete with that "sound" novel's music by point?) but it's better than most of the music in any other Type-Moon game I've seen, (except maybe Actress Again.) There's even some public domain music, and I love classical music, so that's a plus.

-Mahoyo gave off a slice-of-life feeling in the demo. Normally, slice-of-life kills me, especially since most of FSN's attempts at slice-of-life with maguses made my eyes become dead, but in this game, the prose did not let go of my attention. I just love the way Aoko and Alice interact, and that scene where the guy (can't remember his name) pulled all the weeds while they just sat inside was oddly amusing, for some reason.

-And of all the characters seen so far, I like Alice the most. I don't always go nuts over "kuudere" girls, but sometimes, I really like them. (Just look at my current avatar.) And Alice looks to be one I could love. She also has the best visual design in the demo. She's beautiful, she's kuu without being too kuu, and Dat Fait Seen . . . wow.

Of course, it's probably gonna be ages before I can play the full game, but I think this might have the potential to be (in my opinion) at least as good as Tsukihime, if not better. I think Nasu just might have gotten his groove back.

Oh yeah, this has nothing to do with Aoko, but concerning the Tsukihime remake, I too am a little letdown with the Arc miniskirt, but consider this, do you think she'll be wearing that 100 percent of the time? What's stopping Type-Moon from making that her only outfit? Of course now, I don't have anything else to say, so it might be a while before I do another blog here. That's fine; I think I've established enough of a legacy to take a break for the time being.

AA makes AC look about as shitty as AC makes Re-Act look as shitty.

The "cheaper" route to find out if you'd like it or not would be to import the PS2 version. You can find that online for probably $50-60 or so. Of course, then you'll need either a PS2 to play it on (modded, of course, in some way), or a fairly beefy PC to emulate it via PCSX2.

Of course, if you wind up liking it, the cheaper route becomes more expensive, because then you'll want to buy the PC version.
