Inexplicable desire to sleep in the afternoon

Rate this Entry
Has anyone else every experienced this? I've been experiencing heavy drowsiness every day at a specific timing in the afternoon for several years now (borderlining six as of now), which worries me because sleep is scarce in enlistment (which is coming up fairly shortly), much less sleep in the afternoon. If you've ever gone through this, do you know how to wean yourself out of this? I've tried straight-up forcing myself to stay up, to no success; the drowsiness simply comes back the next day at the same time, again and again. Some days it feels as if I can't be properly rested if I don't sleep during these specific hours in addition to night sleep.

Keeping proper hours (sleep at ten) doesn't work either; again, has anyone ever experienced this? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Try making your breakfasts stronger and your lunches more frugal.

Don't sit down after lunch; do something that keeps you active instead.

Don't drink coffee, you'll soon develop tolerance and it won't have any effect.

This works but if you work a desk job like me then you'll want some soda. Take small sips to maximize amount of time bringing can to face, and the constant need to burp will keep you from nodding off.

Though to actually get rid of it entirely, I think spending a solid 2 weeks with proper (~7 hours) of sleep should do it. It'll come back if you start sleeping less again obviously.

Between eight and eleven hours at night. Still doesn't shake the afternoon drowsiness.

Is it a blood pressure issue? You should probably check with your doc. You may need a treatment involving vitamins. How varied is your nutrition? Do you practice sports actively? Are you under medication of any kind?

I don't know about blood pressure, I do know I had a low resting heart rate the last time I went for a checkup though.

Been running three times per week and doing garbage tier weight exercises on the rest days days, but I haven't worked out this whole week because of flu/fever. Drowsiness in the afternoon exists regardless of illness or health though. Not under medication.

    Good luck,

Many years of doctors have managed to tell me bugger all.

Meh, it's more like a phase. I normally wake up at 7 am, feeling completely awake. But nowadays, I find myself sleeping till 11 am. :/

Had this happen before. Honestly I think the best way get rid of it is sleep for 2-3 hours at that time with a alarm clock. When you wake up you trick your body into thinking you got a good amount then head to bed at say 10 or so. At least that is how I pulled off getting rid of it.

I actually do this but it's more of an addiction left over from when I used to stay up 20-26 hours before sleeping. I am slowly breaking the habit this year, but shit's tough yo.

As for me, a cold shower and eating some fish usually takes away any drowsiness or tiredness that I have.
