As I'm coming (dear God, I hope) to the end of my Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince rewrite, I'm finding myself a little bogged down by timing - what events need to happen in what order (never mind the how) so that I can set things up the way I want them for the next book.

Now, to some extent, this has been a problem throughout the entire series - "In order to set up Event X, A and B must happen" - and I've mostly muddled through. The further I've diverged from canon, of course, the more time I've needed to think about what the heck I'm doing, and how, in order to maintain the series' quality and chronology. And given that this is the penultimate book, that's more true than ever before. The final act of the series itself is approaching, and I'm approaching that stage in this book, as well.

(Which means, of course, that I have to tread carefully. I have to lay everything out just right - and being distracted by things like my mom's birthday is not helping! )

I still have a couple of problems I need to solve before I'll have a clear path to the end - one of them rather critical - but I hope it won't be too much longer.

. . . After all, I so want to see your jaws drop.
