Sometimes, I don't understand people.

Today I was very surprised to find out that we had a biology essay. More surprised since the teacher apparently told one girl from my class about it YESTERDAY and asked her to tell everyone. Then, when I asked that girl...

"Oh, I forgot so I posted it on Facebook. You don't have one, so it's entirely your fault for not being noticed."

That was a direct quote, EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. I mean, what the hell? I don't have an account in a site I loathe and because of her incompetence I end up on the short end of the stick? The worst part is that pretty much the entire class sided with her.

I don't have a Facebook account, and never will because I hate sites like that. I fail to see why I'm wrong in this case since it was her fault for not remembering it.

Sorry if it seems like I'm bitching, but I HAD to let it out.

Sounds more like your teacher's fault. Take it up with him/her.

This isn't the first time he did it, but this time he chose someone who forgot to tell everyone. And when I said "pretty much the entire class sided with her", that fatass was included too.

Challenge him to single combat. It's your only remaining option.

It's bad policy to distribute information through the students.

Sorry to hear that, GP, really. Don't know the feeling, but I hope that you're able to correct this blunder on others' parts.
    And what Theo said.

I finally found someone that shares the same viewpoint on sites like Facebook, this must be a sign.

Yeah, best to learn about things like this directly, not from a place that's the scourge of the entire world.

It's good that you don't follow the masses and become one of the sheeple, but, there's really no point to become some sort of a pointless martyr for this.

If you know your classmates pull shit like this, just set up a placeholder facebook account, for monitoring potential messages.

It's a strategy I use, and so far it has been effective from undergrad to postgrad, lol.

You tell me. In my school this is rather common.

Thanks. Moral support is always welcome.

I refuse to change my beliefs. I prefer to drown on my own ideals and die!

This. It is a shame that it is an acceptable policy at your school Gab.

Sometimes teachers like being reminded that you are a paying customer who wants to do assignments so badly that you are handing over money for the privilege. Ask him to kindly take more pride in his job and take your education more seriously.

I don't have a Facebook either, and I will make one only if it ever becomes absolutely necessary. So far so good.

Also, you should definitely talk with your teacher. He should be telling the whole CLASS this, not just one person. If he gives you shit about it, take it to the principal (or if you're in college/university, the department chair). "Requiring" something like that is just plain fucking dumb.

If anything, the fucker should be writing it on the blackboard or telling the class about it while in class a few days before!

And that girl deserves a kick in the cunt.

You can complain to the principal. Guaranteed you will not lose the battle.

Put in a formal complaint with the school. If you bring your parents into it and attribute a lack of concern by the teacher as your academic studies, you should be able to get a formal apology and a black mark against the bastard.

Teacher's to blame, and the girl is, too, but the girl just didn't live up to given responsibility (I'm to say "she's stupid" but I don't want to offend ya'll. In all actuality she didn't really have any obligation to do anything, except before teacher and her conscience).
Though, to say, with same excuse, after she got a "Tell everyone in class" task she could've went out (to a yard? train station?) and stand there with a "Test tomorrow! Questions below" sign over her head. And it'd be your fault for not going there and reading it. Or she could scream it out from her home, your fault not hearing it. She's doing it wrong.

And I guess many here were in that sort of crap. In my country there's a site that stole every idea from facebook similar to Facebook website, that 99.9999% of people (0.0001% being me and other blessed ones) have an account on (and are staying on 24/7). So that shit happens all around.
  17. Mike1984's Avatar
Yeah, that is just plain ludicrous.

It's ridiculous of the school to expect one student to inform you of the essay, and it's even more ridiculous to accept "I posted it on Facebook" as an excuse. Even if you did have a facebook account, what's to say that you'd have that girl as your friend? And, even if you did, what guarantee do they have that you'd have checked her page at the right time to notice it (she can't have sent it as a private message, or she'd have known you hadn't received it)?

You should definitely complain, and keep complaining until they deal with it. Believe me, it works....

I think what Mike is trying to say is "the squeeky wheel gets the oil." ^_^
  19. Enhance's Avatar
There's no "oil" to get out of this though, just self-satisfaction (probably) and that girl having trouble with the teacher, that is surely to blame HER (also self-satisfaction). But, surely, while you can give them some trouble and possibly prevent those situations in future... go for it.

P.S. Let's form facebook/social network refuser/hater group within this forum (which is, in a way, social network. With a lower amount/percentage of suckers, though)!

If you complain enough (and if you're actually right, or at least have an arguable case), it usually isn't worth it for them to fight you, so they'll give in. In this case, where it's blindingly obvious that he's in the right, I would imagine that the school would capitulate very fast.

Hell, if they don't, he could even try the media. It's an absurd enough story that I could see them publishing it, and that would make the school look extremely bad.
