The Blogtiful

And I'm blogging 'bout... oh, what to blog about

So he said, proclaimed, "My dearest
I could very well offer you all the stars in the night sky
Yet would your heart sink
Knowing you'd be denied all the stars beyond?"

Following in others' lead I would use this beginning post to divulge my interests, to weave threads onto which interest and fellow ground may be spun.

Music:

Barenaked Ladies - Okay, I'm only familiar with the albums Gordon ('But not a real green dress, that's cruel') and Stunt ('It's been...') and the song Shoe Box ('of liiieee-iiiieee-iiiees').

Billy Idol - I'd make a quip about him resembling Drao Malfoy, except it'd be the other way around, and technically wrong anyway I guess. Well, still highly recommneded by me.

Crowded House - If you've heard only Don't Dream It's Over, trust me when I say there's tons you've been missing out on.

Genesis - Unsurprisingly a Peter Gabriel era fan over a Phil Collins one, though I don't particular hatred over the latter for 'selling-out'.

Meat Loaf - I don't really know what to say, he's a well-deserved choice, yet an obvious one.

Nirvana - Ditto, really.

Paul Kelly - I doubt anyone outside Australia'd be familiar with him, which while expected given his music style is quite a shame too.

Queen - Similar case to Meat Loaf and Nirvana. Honestly which music aficianado's list don't Queen have a place on?

R.E.M - Only very recently have I really gotten into them, the titular song from the movie Man on the Moon about Andy Kaufman being my favourite so far.

The Smiths - I'd still say not exactly for everyone, but not as mopey as made out to be. Sometimes when listening to them I admittedly feel ashamed to listen to other music afterwards.

Split Enz - Honestly, they've got it all. As creative as Talking Heads, as humorous as Barenaked Ladies, their earlier stuff can be as epic as Gabriel-era Genesis, and of course they sowed the seeds for Crowded House.

Talking Heads - You instantly know right away that their defenitely one-of-a-kind.

"Weird Al" Yankovic - I know he's not meant to be some 'parodist ninja for hire', but frankly I like him even better these days as he spoofs trends in music I otherwise avoid.

The Whitlams - Like Paul Kelly, I doubt anyone outside Australia's heard of them, which again is quite a shame. Treats like 'Blow Up The Pokies', '800 Miles from Darwin', 'You Sound Like Louis Burdett' and 'Keep the Light On' come highly recommended.

Myth/History:

At this pouint in time I'm looking up on Russian History and Folklore for potential Servant ideas. Of course there's the spring-to-mind choices like:
- Rasputin (Caster),
- Baba Yaga (Her profession would indicate Caster, yet her relatively high physical strength all my ideas for NPs lean her towards Rider)
- And Ivan the Terrible (Berserker, possibly Lancer as they say his staff was spear-tiped, perhaps Caster as one on another forum pointed out his use of Icons)

However if you plunge further many more come to light such as:
- Ivan Tsarevich (Archer going by Tsarevna Frog, Rider going by The Firebird and Marya Morevna. Possibly a 'fake' Servant a la Kojiro or some ideas for Hua mulan, being a composite of at least three different heroes rather than one solid character)
- Vasilisa the Wise (Frog princess married by one of the Ivans, could be Rider going by the description of her magnificent carriage, yet'd also have the power to 'absorb' poor objects and fashion greater constructs with them)
- Koschei the Deathless (Infamous lich slain by Ivan Tsarevich in two different tales, Caster is the most fitting yet also qualifies for Saber and Rider)
- Marya Morevna (Rider, having taken Koschei's former steed, which before him belonged to Baba Yaga. Also'd have a 'Twelve Chains' NP)
- Vasilisa the Beautiful (Not to be confused with Vasilisa the Wise. Can't decide whether she'd be Archer or Assassin. Her two NPs would be her doll which could shift Classes based on the situation, and the skull lantern which absorbs all manmade light around and fires it in a huge blast, which she herself must use)
- Malyuta Skuratov (Leader of the Oprichniks and Ivan the Terrible's right-hand-man, unquestionably Berserker)

However I've also been looking up some non-Egyptian African figures, in particular Kahina (Saber or Caster, could also be Rider with those Algerian birds as her mount or Archer if she sends them at her enemy in a barrage), Amina Sukhera (Berserker I'm guessing) and Yennenga (Rider>Archer>Lancer, having a NP which could cause thing to rot).

(On another topic, I was going to do an Anime/Manga section here, but got tired and just wanted to ship this off. Maybe next thrilling instalment?)

Fanfic Status:

Fiction/Protoype - Planning to continue (I've sworn to myself I must churn out at least one Jade/Misaya interaction), yet to be honest hit a bit of a writer's block.

Destin/l'Excuse - Planning not a reboot (be way too soon, plus it already is a reboot of a fic I posted under a different name on the old BL, and before that a comparatively ancient RP of sorts on TvTropes) but a refresh I think, starting the CYOA up anew.

Till next time, see you space cowboy.

@Russian folklore: Feel free to talk to me about it. Unless you're russian, I might be of some help.

Nitpicking time: It's "Koschei the Immortal" to be precise, by the way. "Deathless" is literal translation.

P.S. There's overwhelming amount of Ivans there anyway. But if you go for Rider class, you might want to use Yershov's tale "Конёк-горбунок" (Horsie-humpbackie?) that has Ivan as protagonist (as usual), but the central figure is a magical horse.

It's going to change soon. It's becoming mainstream to be a hipster so hipsters would soon implode, and less stereotypes would be forced.

*has been unknowingly hating mainstream stuff before mainstream hate was mainstream. Now feels mainstream and tries not to think about it >_>*
