The Dark Side of the Moon (Kieran's Works)

So, my surgery date's been set . . .

I suppose I should explain - about two years ago, during a physical, my doctor decided that my feet needed a little corrective surgery. Nothing major, or life-threatening, but something that ought to be done. I made an appointment with a surgeon, got assurances, and basically put any plans I had to do major exercise (i.e., to get into shape before applying to the armed forces), or anything else of the kind, on hold until the surgery was done. There was no point building myself into condition to have to do it all over again, after all . . .

They called a few months later, and said they'd had a cancellation and could fit me in, but I had plans to meet with Elf, Roadbuster and Nerroth at AnimeNorth, and I didn't want to cancel, because it would only be the second time I'd seen Elf or Nerroth, and I'd never met Roadbuster before. It was too good an opportunity to miss (although, had I known the kind of day I'd have - which was totally not their fault - I might've opted for the surgery At least Elf got her book. ). Besides, it was only a cancellation slot. I was still on the normal roster, and it wasn't an emergency - I could wait my turn.

They called yesterday, and said I was booked for September the 13th. So a lot of things are going to change shortly - and very quickly. Since I'm basically looking at having both legs in casts for a while, I won't be able to access my Net computer (two floors away), and maybe not even my writing computer, five feet from my bed. While I'm sure my wrists won't mind the rest, my imagination is going to go spare . . .

Still, I'll work out what I can do in the interim - I don't know if I'll have the time and money to set up a laptop, but maybe? - otherwise . . . Well, otherwise I'll be on enforced vacation for about a month. I'll let you know more as I find it out myself.

Sorry about this.

Good luck with the surgery. And if the casts are going to get in the way, and there's no one around to help you out, maybe you can try to get a wheelchair from the hospital for home use? You'd only have it for a month, so I'd imagine that they'd at least consider it. You could get around the house more easily, and write as well (maybe put the keyboard on your lap?).

Man, I hope everything goes well with the surgery. I had no idea. Well, just best of luck with it.

Also, you can get a net book for about 400-500 bucks.

Thanks, everyone - it's the stairs that have me worried. Moving two floors or more . . .

Yikes! I've moved 3 friends in one year, I can't imagine moving with legs in a cast...

A little late, but good luck, and you're forgiven ahead of time.
Time to find stories to keep my encroaching insanity at bay in the meantime.

Get a netbook. The processor might not be good enough to serve as a laptop. But its cheaper to get. And if need be. Gimme a pm if you still cant afford one. Might be able to see if i have a old, half dead one still alive.

If you don't have a laptop or using your computer, why not just get pen and paper and try the old fashioned way?

But, I am sure you'll find a way to the computer. Human ingenuity is our greatest asset after all. If not, pen(cil) and paper and set yourself up for later when you can. And if worse comes to worse, detoxing from our precio-I mean the computer will do any of us good.

Good luck on your surgery man, I hope it goes off without a hitch, complete with a speedy recovery.
