I created a little bit of possible backstory. It should be fairly obvious whose. Not sure if I should have this be canon, and it wasn't big enough to warrant necroing the main thread.

"Come on, you bum, either pay up or get yourself out of my establishment. Just because the world has gone to shit doesn't mean I'm gonna let you eat here for free!"

The indicated bum looked up at the man blankly, and shook his cloth-wrapped head. How long had he been here? He had arrived a little after sundown, and had drowned his sorrows until he passed out. He raised his eye to the agitated manager, and allowed himself to be dragged out of the building. He did have money to pay to the man, but he would be better off leaving anyway. Try as he might, there was no way he would drown out his mistake anytime soon.

As he stood shakily up outside the run down beer joint, he looked beyond the city limits. Grey and brown, as far as the eye can see. Dusty as all get out too. Nothing lived beyond the city limits for thousands of miles. It was like that in most places, humanity had almost been entirely wiped out. He shot that thought down disgusted with himself.

When he considered things from that angle, it diminished the impact of those lives that had been lost. He would absolutely not let them be forgotten.

That was his duty. He had killed them. He may not have been the ultimate engine of their destruction, but he was the one who created the method by which the world was killed, and all of their blood was on his hands. He could almost smell it.
