xm's randomity on Type-Moon and other weirdness

I LIVE!

Do not be alarmed by the avvie change. Yeah, I know, I seem to average one avatar a year, but I had to change. Why? Well, story time.

You may recall some time ago, I invited a friend of mine, Zettai Ryouiki, from MAL to join up here. In case you forgot, he's the guy who likes what he calls "dommy lolis" a lot. I know he's not very active here, but he is a Type-Moon fan. that betrayed my heart

Anyways, somehow, in one of our conversations, the subject of Martian Sucessor Nadesico comes up. Of course he likes it; there's a loli girl in it, and a kuudere one at that. (Did I mention he also likes emotionally withdrawn girls?) When it comes to "deres", I tend to like tsunderes more than the kuus and dans, but I'm also likely to hate a tsundere more. (MIKOTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!) Regardless, I asked for a torrent, he complied, and I started watching.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS THE BEST RETRO 90s ANIME I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!!!111!!!

I'm not done with the series yet, but I'm already proclaiming that! And you have to remember, I tend not to be fond of anime from the 1990s. I still am not. (My preferred anime era is 2005-2009.) And yet here's Nadesico, endearing me with its characters and scenarios. And yeah, Ruri's a fan favorite for a reason. Aside from being the earliest kuudere I know to be awesome, and also the best character, she is also really really really kee-yeute! I just had to use that image as an avatar!

Which now brings me back to sci-fi anime. Okay, people already asked this on Anime News Network (I am a glutton for punishment), but it bears repeating; why is Evangelion the mid-90s sci-fi anime that everyone talks about, and not Nadesico!? Go anywhere with hardcore anime fans, and they're like, "Oh! Eva changed my life! Rei is mai waifu! Take all of my money, Gainaxu!" or "Fuck Eva! Overrated shit for faaaaaaaaags! Shinji is god of pussies! Fuck Anno!" (And then you have guys like me who think Eva is okay, but prefer the manga and Rebuild.) And the rare time Nadesico does get brought up, all that's said is, " . . . wasn't that one of the first animes with moe girls?" "I think so." I ask this because nearly everything Eva did, Nadesico does better.

Although someone at ANN kinda already answered that question; because Eva characters are more relateable. What does that say about society?

----------

Wait, betrayed me?

Oh yes, some time ago, Zettai and I were talking about Type-Moon girls, and we brought up two favorites of ours, Akiha, and Rin. You all know how much I love these two, but prefer Akiha-sama more. And then . . . Zettai said he likes Rin more . . . said he found her "very beautiful", and a better example of a tsundere (it's rare for him to like a tsundere) than Akiha.

This did not make sense. Not only have I always favored Akiha's personality over Rin's, albeit by a small portion, I also found her better-looking. I mean, just look at her hair, for Christ's sake! But noooooooooooooo, Rin has "Twin tails" (he never says pig tails), and that's apparently hotter than Akiha's headband. By the way, Akiha's hairstyle is my personal favorite hairstyle.

He's made no apologies for his position, and neither have I. Just so you know, I'm not trying to start a waifu war, I just thought I'd share that with all of you.

-----

Oh yeah, did you know Zettai and two other friends of mine on MAL recommended Steins;Gate? Of course, me being the freak I am, I'm going through the VN first.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT you already know where I'm going with this. I'm not that far yet, but so far, this is a modern classic. Yeah, I've been immersed in two groundbreaking Japanese sci-fi series. El Psy Congroo.

Likely because, while both series serves as deconstruction of the mecha genre, Eva broke ground by combining mindfuck and angst with the mecha genre while Nadesico took did a straight parody of the entire genre, and anime fandom in general, by setting the difference between hard and soft mecha series center stage. The first is a bit more eye catching then the second it seems.

That being said, Ruri is the superior waifu by far. She is my second favorite loli after Illya <3. Also it amuses me greatly that Shinji and Akito both have the same VA in english.

    Nadesico is awesome.

Shame you had to find that out later.

Don't watch the Prince of Darkness movie. It's awful.

Also the Esties are awesome and Gai saving Tsukumo from being killed and then saving Akito before he gets shotdown by Hokushin at the tune of Geki Ganger 3 are pretty sweet moments*

*These memories are from Super Robot Wars W, I'm sure.

As usual, your tastes are high quality.

Different opinions, people have them. Alot of people are turned off anime when they see the "moe" anime girl.

@dolly Oh right, can't forget the mindblowing. Some people like that, I do too on occasion, so that might be another big part of it. Also, Nadesico hasn't let me down like Fate, so I'd say Ruri is the superior loli. Then again, I'm more likely to enjoy sci-fi over fantasy, so whatever.

@Zidan Indeed, but discovering awesomeness very late is sort of a thing I do.

@Laith My friends at MAL think I should watch Prince of Darkness; they say it's not bad. Of course, if I should not like it, it'll result in some very interesting posts.

Also wish I knew more about SRW, so I'd know what people were talking about.

@IRUN I'm actually notorious for my high standards of quality. Thanks for agreeing, though.

@Char I'm aware of that. To the more uptight members of Anime News Network, moe girls are some kind of cancer. I personally usually don't mind them . . . usually.
