Were you a 90's kid?

Rate this Entry
Me? Yes. Hell yes.

Namely because I recognized EVERY FUCKING SINGLE ONE OF THE THINGS BELOW.

And remember them whether it was for liking them (All That, Bill Nye, Sonic the Hedgehog), disliking them (never cared for Salute Your Shorts, or AYAOTD?), or because it just plain proves how low TV has gotten today (I absolutely agree with their assessment of Johnny Bravo). Hell, I even owned a Tamagotchi and kept it alive for over five weeks before it died - of old age.

To my fellow forumites who, through no fault of their own, sadly missed the 90s: You missed a rather bizarre decade where which began with us being coddled due to lingering fears that the Russians (or as they were occasionally called then, the Soviets) would wipe everyone the fuck out with nuclear war, and so our parents babied the living hell out of us at times just in case the nuclear fire hit the sky, to the return of American animation as a powerhouse in the early-mid 90s (only to be somewhat displaced by Japanese animation late in the decade, but we all know that I'm sure), and just plain weird shit that really couldn't fly in modern times anymore like Barbie dolls that grew breasts when you cranked their arms.

Ah, 90s. What a magical decade. I'll be looking forward to everyone else waxing nostalgic about it in another 10 years or so.

And then I'll weep, because the 2000s will strike in the 2030s and that's when it all fucking went to hell.

I was born in 1991 and I still recognize most of this. Lion King was the first movie I ever saw in theaters.

... And yes, I remember all the Disney ballads.

    MY CHILDHOOD.

    Barely agreed.

Ah the nostalgia. But even still, i remember the predecessor of All That, which was You Can't Do That on Television.

And no one remembers The Tomorrow People I'll bet.
    Heh, I feel so old.

Born 1990, I remember 90% of all of this.

Salute Your Shorts? (This thing came apart)

    Yep.

Gonna rooock your socks off ...

    Gah, yeah. Memories.

To say nothing of watching Aladdin and Toy Story like 40 times.

Oh God, the memories, blowing onto game cardtriges and wedging it slightly to the sides because Super Mario was not working.

Nickeloleon was amazing back then, you could pretty much sit in front of the TV with Nick on and be entertained for hours, but you forgot my favorite show Pete and Pete, you also left out the first TV girl every guy had a crush on. Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa and Sabrina, the teenage witch)

And the cartoons, oh good lord, so many cartoons. Cartoon Network started doing their own cartoons then, why we have Dexter, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo etc. My favorite was Courage: the cowardly dog. Of course Nickeloleon wasn't so far behind, Rocco's Modern Life, Rugrats, Catdog, Doug, Hey Arnold (that was were I saw my first Tsundere in the form of Helga) The best batman ever was debuted on this era, I remember the amazing Spiderman cartoon that had that intro theme that was nothing more than a wailing guitar and autotuning. The one with those crappy looking 3D animations that we all thought were so awesome whenever Spiderman was swinging all over Manhattan, the TMNT were all kinds of crazy awesome. So many good Cartoons that decade.

While they weren't as prominent as they were during the 80's we still had arcades and they were awesome. Completely dark, threatening places where money was spent in the form of tokens and dreams of videogame greatness were crushed, Awesome I tell you.

I think there were only like five of these that went over my head.

    So many memories.

I need to watch me some 90s tv again.

Almost crying in laughter tinged with nalstalgia.

one for you though, my mom once read a goosebumps book and had nightmares, she tried to stop me from reading them.

Well, I remember about half of this. I think it should be asking whether you were an American 90's kid.

Most I remember. Then again, U.S. culture does bleed into here (even the voice acting roles are similar if not the same in many cases.)

And then I'll weep, because the 2000s will strike in the 2030s and that's when it all fucking went to hell.
Oh so that's when you grew up.

I loved Space Jam so much, I watched it a lot on our VHS when I was a kid. Then it blew my mind that it had a Pulp Fiction reference.

And those 90s cartoons are still being aired here. A lot.

And Doug, I miss that guy, although I understand almost nothing of it because I was a kid. (I remember the episode about him losing hair, though.)

    Points:

    - I think I actually ate a TMNT ice cream pop back in the day. I think it was only once, but it was good enough.

    - I liked Dinosaurs and Family Matters. They were great shows.

    - Kinda ironic that the Green Ranger kinda outlasted the rest of the guys, since he did appear in Dino Thunder (Also, Amy Jo Johnson was in Seven Pounds).

    - Alex Mack would worship Harry Dresden, even though she kinda sucks.

    - We just saw the rise of Will Smith with TFPFBA.

    - MJ is still the greatest, but Kobe has come into his own for the last decade.

    - I wore LA Gear sneakers a lot of times in my early childhood years.

    - Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were the shit, yo.

    - What, no one ever saw that game show with the Crypt Keeper? :P

    - About the WWF, you're preaching to the choir on that one, especially with lots of comments on YT. Men were men back then and they were actual tag teams and cool gimmicks, not the crap we see today.

    - Let's face it. Batman: TAS pretty much created the DCAU. Also, Mr. Freeze's origin became canon.

    - I pretty much grew up with an NES and Sega Genesis. I know how blowing carts was like.

    - Helga Pataki: First animated example of a yandere?

    - Correction: Ren and Stimpy are much more disturbing now. How does it even qualify as a cartoon for kids? o.O Rocko is passable because it's much less creepy.

    - Never had any Lunchables. I most ate good stuff at schools. Eh. :P

    - Al Bundy pretty much took massive levels up. Peg Bundy was quite the schrew.

    - Any good vampire and vampire hunter would kick Eddie's ass, period.

    - Spider-Man and X-Men had people use laser firearms instead of real ones. At least the Turtles did use their weapons. :P That's another correction. If anything, Mike had the short end of the stick in later seasons.

    - Yep, kinda shocking that Urkel was Sonic, really.

    - Tragically, I did not have enough adventure games in my lifetime.

You know I remember both and use to watch the hell out of You Can't Do That on Television. The Tomorrow People was always on some weird time slot and I could never really catch it.

You know what's really funny? The shows that are on here I didn't watch because they were too late in the 90's and I was already past their target age group.

And never got scared by "Are You Afraid of the Dark". I use to watch "Tales from the Crypt", some kiddy remake wouldn't faze me.

Also, where's Clarissa Explains it All?!

Buffy would beat the living crap out of Edward. She even made a joke about it in the comics that her vampire romance was better and her vampire was hotter. Because, you know, Angel and Spike look like men.

Well, considering that one of those guys is David Boreanaz... Yeah, I'd say he's a looker.

    Also, there's another thing missing...

Where the hell is Garfield and Friends?! What the heck, man? No love for Garfield?

Lies. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did use their weapons. Just only when fighting robots. Because you could blow up a robot on-screen in the 90's, which is why so many, many 90's cartoon villains had easy access to robots.

But yes, I totally recognize all but maybe one of these.
