Don't we all love computer errors...?

The first one I remember in my life was one that I caused in my mother's company when I was 8. Blew up their accounting server for two days, because I somehow managed to take its rights to all the data away while I only had remote access. Even now I have no clue how that was even possible (outside of saying "their security sucked").

Well, this one isn't quite so serious, but it still freaked me out. I hadn't used my writing computer for two months, and it looks like the battery running the internal clock has run down - but the startup sequence freaked me out, because it did things it has never done before, and it took me most of the day to figure out that's what the problem (probably) is.

To add to the fun, my parents got me an adaptor that will allow me to put my writing computer online - but it's really designed to be used with Windows 7, not Windows XP (though it says it can be), so we're trying to decide whether or not to try it, or just buy a whole new computer or laptop, first.

Well, for as long as you can try to use it without spending additional money on it, trying the adaptor would be the sensible choice. Compatibility shouldn't be an issue unless you are trying to use something made for 32-bit WinXP, on a 64-bit Win7, and even then there is a chance that it will work.

Though, if you are certain that you will have to get a new unit, and you do have money for that now, then buying a new one instead of trying to prolong the old one's suffering is an option too.
Personally I only try to do that if there's really no choice (the last time when I got a new unit was when the old laptop got a problem with both the battery and the charger at the same time, so it was impossible to keep it operational without spending something like 50% of the new one's cost on buying new charger and/or battery.

Oh, and I'm three (or perhaps two, depending on what time it is for you) days late with that, but happy birthday. I planned to say/write that on time, but once my plans to remember something were foiled by my work schedule.

No, just back up the old computer and buy another. If you're getting warnings about an internal battery being dead, then . . . kiss it good bye.

Plus, you can get a laptop! Your own Laptop with Windows 7 and such on it.

But the battery could be bought too... right?

Also late, but I'll join in on the Happy birthday and wish it to you!

Thank you. We've gone with the laptop idea, since it will allow me to do things I'm presently forbidden to, like chat, as well as surf the Net on my writing computer - so you don't have to wait so long for updates!
