Media classes have ruined me.

Now every time I try to watch or read something I end up sitting there wondering what kind of message it's trying to send, and whether or not it challenges stereotypes or enforces them. No seriously, I watched Rizzoli & Isles last week and then spent the day after trying to figure out if the show enforces or challenges female stereotypes.

Oh man, I should totally do a rewatch of some of my old favorite classic series (here's looking at you, Utena). That would be a lot of fun to do now, since I'm being taught how to critically observe media and its messages.

Speaking of Utena, on Fellows: I am so sorry for the massive delay with the updates on that one. School's been keeping me really busy this semester with the new set of courses and the major change, and my biggest issue with the next chapter is introducing Utena to the expanding FSN cast. I'm a bit unsure about how she'd react to Saber and Rider, and how they'd react to her.

But that aside, yeah, media classes. Now I can't stop seeing messages and stereotypes everywhere. On the upside, though, I prefer it to the science and math courses I used to have to take.

Anything is better than the science and math courses you had to take!

I'm not seeing how this has ruined you though. Imagine the conversations you can have with this new material in your head.

Yeah that happened to me too. It was fun then it got boring then it got fun again. Kinda tricky =V

This is kind of like how I sometimes unconsciously psychologically profile people. It's hard to get out of the habit of just enjoying something for what it is, without reading into the subconscious elements of it.

At least you're finally thinking too hard about something good. I consider this improvement.

The English lit and film classes I had to take for Gen Ed tried their damndest to get me in that frame of mind, but I was so acutely aware of the fact that I was just spinning bullshit for miles that it never really stuck. After I managed to pass an exam on Great Expectations (which I had not yet read) by writing a comparative analysis between it and the plot of Spiderman 3 (of which I had only seen the trailer), it was hard to take any of it seriously.

Yeah, my school isn't known for it's fine arts program.
