Until there's a sequel involving the states, then we find out how organized they are there.

For all we know, how magic and the supernatural played a role in the history of the states. It's such a world-building thing it has to happen eventually....

Nah, they probably do the Master and apprentice route, figuring there doesn't seem to be all too much of that here in the nasu-verse. This could be a cool experience, seeing the world of magic and supernatural from a totally different view. Maybe a swap of how the European mage's association view things I think. Instead of a focus on genetics and the like, it's more of being your own man and bringing yourself up and making yourself strong, not being born strong. The Waver and the Marisa Kirasame style.

Yea, I beatya most are drunk. But I do assume they won't be around all to long. Being drunk off your kister and experimenting with the prime elements don't end well I'd assume.

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason that "the continent" couldn't refer to sub-Saharan Africa? Because Eastern mumbo jumbo seems to do pretty well with western magecraft. And jungle bogey might be something weird. Alternatively, India?

In the UK "the continent" is indeed mainland Europe but yeah it makes no sense for this.

Well, maybe it does, it could refer to the Sea of Astray? Going by the context of the sentence it probably means the Middle East, even though that's not a continent.

The Middle East is mentioned as "the Middle East", though.
And it's almost certainly China. Even arai thought it was China. If you go to the Magic - Spells section of Fuyuki he wrote up a whole spiel on it under the China heading.
