Getting a New Computer

Rate this Entry
...the real hard part comes in transferring files, not in actually getting the thing. >.>

My new computer will be pretty great, and it's actually finished building, but I won't be able to do anything with it until I get these files onto an external hard drive. Even overnight and during work hours that's been going, and it's still not finished. Hopefully this will go faster!

Anyhow, this new computer business as well as generally being busy at work is why I've been so quiet lately. Once everything's set up again, I'll definitely be back to updating Ame no Woto and MPII!

    Leo, I'll post more RP stuff once I can, but I'm really busy now! ;_;

Who knows if I'll be able to get Wi-Fi set up properly on the new computer, and there are tons of other considerations as well.

Nice! getting a new computer is always a fun experience. What's your new specs?

I am looking to get a new one myself, I was debating whether to buy one or build one but the appearance of Windows 8 means I will probably build one.

^Windows 8 looks like garbage to me. Unless I'm just too much of a fag for it since I'm fine with 7.

I'm doing this also, but slowly since I got stuff to pay now >_>

so far, only have a tower.

My only beef with it is the fact that the desktop versions are nothing more than shells of what windows once was. But other than that, I think it was a smart move of Microsoft to finally change things up a little with Windows, I just think they changed the wrong things with Windows 8

I have to bring nearly 500GB of files from three different hard drives and a different operating system, so I can't really just do a direct transfer from HDD to HDD.

As you can probably note, though, I've got everything up and ready! I just need to set some things up (need Skype, ICQ, Steam all installed again) and I should be great! This thing runs like an absolute dream, and I swear it actually is making my bedroom colder just by existing. The old computer got quite hot, but this one is like a goddamn refrigerator underneath my desk. Even the Wi-Fi seems faster!

As for the specs, here they are:

    Processor: Intel i7 3.40ghz 8MB Quad Core
    Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G41
    Case: Coolermaster HAF 912
    PSU: Coolermaster GX 650 Watt
    RAM: 2x Kingston Hyper-X 8GB DDR3, 1600mhz
    Storage:
    --2x Western Digital 1TB SATA-3 64MB HDD
    --1x Kingston 120GB SVP200S3 SSD
    Video: MSI GTX 670PE PCI-E
    USB:
    --6x USB 2.0
    --2x USB 3.0

It also has an internal card reader, which is standard but also nice, and adds yet another USB 2.0 slot to the machine.

I'll have to test it later tonight. :3

Well, from what I understand, if you change to the standard view it's basically just a more stable Windows 7 with improvements here and there to address the most common complaints. They just don't really show off anything except for the silly tablet-fied layout in commercials and previews.

It's one of those "not enough to upgrade, but absolutely no reason to pick 7 over 8 if you're buying new" situations.

    Nice spec :3

Also the Metro UI in W8 replaces the start button, W8 has no start button whatsoever!

That pissed me off, a family friend wanted some of my tech knowledge for a laptop she was getting for a Christmas present and she had me tinker with some settings before she gave it away and Lo and Behold! the start button is gone, that and the fact that you can't start it straight to desktop are my biggest grievances with Windows 8

I simply don't like it. I did everything with my start menu. Got a problem with that, well tough shit.

Not bad. That'd be an i7-3770 or an i7-3770K (the latter of the two being better as it has an unlocked multiplier). Case is decent, too, although a bit cheap for my tastes (would've rather had something that could do bigger fans to move more air). Motherboard is meh though (should've went with an Asus), and honestly I would've been more comfortable with a 750W PSU (the videocard alone can take up to about 200).

Otherwise, decent. Now, the real question: How much did you pay for this, because if it was over $1250 USD or so, you got SO ripped off.

    Also: y u no consult me D:
