Look man, when you can't tell when and how the events of Fate/Zero happened, you gotta do a shit ton of research.

I MUST DEPICT IN EXCRUCIATING DEATIL HOW KARIYA POOPS HIS FLYING PIRANHA BEETLES AND IRI-MUN'S REACTIONS TO HAMSTERS MUST BE FUCIKNG ACCURATE, DAMNIT

And then I accidently 2 volumes of Fate/Zero.

Yes, Waver is an adorable whiny brat.
Yes, Alexander is easily the biggest, most badass Servant ever.
Yes, Lancaa Ga Shindaa. Again.
Yes, Ryunosuke's and Bluebeard's relationship is totally fucking gay. I swear Butch Gen didn't remember to add the damn bishie sparkles because he's a fuckface. Also the blood of innocent children.
Yes, Kayneth is the King of Getting Sick Burn'd. I thought I'd have some sympathy for him, but really, I hope Sola-Ui rapes him or something. If he would have a Reality Marble, it'd be Unlimited Sick Burn'd Works. That is, if he could manifest one lolololololololol
Yes, Turkeyomi is an idiot. Why didn't he die in a hilarious, turkey-related manner is a mystery to me.
Yes, it appears that TYPE-MOON has a hate-boner for Gil.
Yes, Caren is apparently Kotomine's daughter. What is this I don't even.
And yes, Butch Gen is a horrible person who lies through his teeth. Sadly he's also very good at his job.

Fucking fuck, why does Madoka feel so shallow after reading Fate/Zero?

    I love Madoka but it's mostly for the ambience, the art and the music. The story is pretty basic.

    That is fairly common, with wiki and such, if a person can fake it well enough, they can get through the hurdles of actually reading/playing the source material.

    There are some people who have been here for years and haven't played some of the VNs they write stories for.

    It's not a crossover. That would mean I have to involve the Timelords and the Daleks and who knows what. To write the physics of that would be HORRIBLE. And would most likely involve MECHA. And CLEAVING.

    I haven't finished BG and BG2 tho. There's the thing called "that fucking shitty interface" that's preventing me from doing so. And recently, a shitty computer that can't run BG2 without shutting down. (Rest assured, I will at least finish "The Kidnapping of Boo" Before I handle the fun bits.)

    And I did read Fate/Zero. The research is for LATER EVENTS AND SCENES.

    ...Don't look at me like that. It's sacrilege, I know. I can handle the initial bits without adequate exposure to said mediums.

    I personally hate when people do this because it's inevitably OOC as shit.

    I will say I find a certain amount of bias immediatly pops up when I know someone actually didnt read the source. A good example being

    *pops head above treeline, twitches, sniffs suspiciously*

    I hope she isnt here....

    Elf's second chances. whgen I first read it I thought it was pretty good, but then when I read it again later after I found out she had never played the route in tsukihime all the little innacuracies and problems I had previously been willing to shrug off as author fiat and handwaves started rearing their ugly heads because now I was seeing them as being wrongheaded and innacurate, robbing my enjoyment of the fic.

    But you first liked the fic. It wasn't until I'd confessed that I'd only played Arc's route that you had to go nit pick it. However, in the beginning you bought the fake. So my skills win!

    Heh, well Elf you are one of the people who *can* fake it well. And, flamed as I might be for saying this, but people will usually read a story as long it is good to them. I have seen characterization flown out the window for fanon and awful memetic flanderization, and no one is the wiser. Or if they are, they don't care, lol.

    Fortunately when that fic came around I had already known that Elf 1) hadn't read any Tsukihime routes but Arc's, 2) had a misguided view of Akiha's character despite not playing any Far Side routes, and 3) doesn't let pesky things like characters' personalities get in the way of pairing Archer with every female in TM. :P

    What really gets me is when people try to write about characters from things that haven't been translated, especially when the character is new, because OMG THAT CHARACTER SURE IS PRETTY I HAVE TO WRITE A FIC ABOUT THEM RIGHT THIS INSTANT!!! And then they try to extrapolate the character's personality from their appearance. And it generally does not work, especially in cases when a character's personality doesn't match their appearance at all. I'm looking at you Shishigou.

    I usually try not to fake it. I get into the head of the characters and imagine how they would react.

    For that I require at least quotes, sayings, actions and preferably have read the source material at least once. Wikis and TVTropes help a lot. But at the very least, I would like some quotes or a description of their actions.

    And while I will resist the call of cheap laughs, I will apologize in advance for my nature of humor. My humor is much lower than a list-based comedy writer, after all. I require at least a few meme flanderizations to exist.
