Dogs, and The People who Shouldn't Own Them: The Conclusion.

A few of you may remember this blog post I made in April 2012 in regards to a young female Shepherd dog who lived in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, as I expected, it ended in tragedy.

As I mentioned in the blog post, one of my main concerns with the dog was her lack of training in regards to cars and her extremely long leash; long enough for her to lunge out after a car and possibly get hit or grazed. The fact that we have young people in the neighborhood who liked the speed, unfortunately, didn't help.

My mom told me today she was hit by a car a little while before I came home last night. She was left out alone in the front yard, once again on a long leash, and lunged out into the street as someone was speeding by. She died instantly. The person didn't stop.

She was a little over a year old. If I can take comfort in anything, it was that it was quick and she didn't suffer.

    *sigh* God, this sucks. Poor thing... she was so young, too.

    Makes me wish the car had hit her damn idiot owner instead.

    Ok, what the hell, I just read the blog post you did like a year ago before this one and that's horrible, that's almost a case for animal neglect. Forget a dog, those people should not be allowed to have pets.

    The fact I'm a cat guy notwithstanding, dogs are wonderful and loving animals and the fact these people where just keeping this dog tied up outside... God! Makes me wanna smack someone.

    Damn, that's awful. What kind of complete idiot ties a dog out on a leash that's long enough to reach the street? I mean, for Heaven's sake, even the kind of cruel jerks that would tie a dog out and obviously never bother with any kind of proper training ought to at least measure the leash. I'm with Moczo on this one. That owner ought to be tied to a leash and then put out in the street in rush hour.

    Report them to Animal Control about animal abuse. I don't know how much they can do in your area, but it wouldn't hurt. They could get abuse and at the very least neglect charges.

    Ouch.

    I'm not the biggest dog fan (cats forever!) but I can't stand ANY kind of animal mistreat. Poor puppy ;_; why do the people who never deserve dieing always die first?! ;_;

    Same here. I feel most sorry for the puppy...owners didn't care enough to take care of it or even shorten the leash. The least they could've done is made sure it got adopted or sent to an animal clinic ("pound"? been too long, seen so many ways of wording it) for adoption.

    Several neighbors actually approached the owners at various times throughout this period offering to take the dog off their hands. One neighbor even knew of a rescue that would have been willing to take her on and train her properly until she got a new home. They simply weren't willing to give her up.

    My neighbors are neglecting the hell out of their beautiful pit bulls and leaving them tangled up together in a cramped backyard. Those fuckers have a huge ass front yard that those dogs should be running around.

    It's pissing me off.
