668 - Neighbor of the Beast

An annual family outing.

Rate this Entry
So, about a week ago, we took a trip out to a sort of annual family outing: The Erie County Fair.

Now this is somewhere I've gone pretty much almost every August of my life from the age of three years old on. It was a tradition started by my grandfather, and then carried on through my father. The only exception was really last year, when dad had passed four months before we would've went and it made it rather rough on me to go. Even going this year was kind of hard in some ways since we went on the day we would've traditionally went - Veterans' Day Celebration, so that Grandpa could catch up with his war buddies. (Reduced admission also admittedly helped.)

Since I got my camera, of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't take some pictures. As always with this camera, the pictures are damn huge, and I'm too lazy to resize them. Besides, it's my bandwidth, not yours, unless you have an ISP that caps your download limits, in which case, you so silly.

Here is the Wizard of Wood. This guy makes some pretty damn nice carvings, and this one here is of 1920s-1940s American comedians, Laurel and Hardy.

We found this neat covered wagon after some more walking and checking out some horses and such. This is my mother and my stepfather; you get no points for guessing who is who, but you certainly deserve a slap to the eyes if you can't figure it out.

Interior view, same wagon.

Some info on the wagon. Built in 1885 in Ohio, built to be used by the military in the country's western expansion.

Here is a young girl committing suicide. Well no, not really. She's jumping onto an airbag. $10 a jump, or three for $20.

Map of the fairgrounds. They actually finally resumed calling it "Erie County Fair" after it spending most of the last 10 years being rebranded "America's Fair." It didn't stick.

A sea lion show we wound up catching. Not bad considering the lens I was using (a 50mm prime) has, obviously, no ability to zoom. The fact it could still capture pretty good details was very nice.

More sea lions. Also a helicopter.

Even more sea lions. Very pretty spray.

Walking along the Midway. Food as far as the eye can see.

Near where my Grandpa and dad would sit year in, year out is the Nyah-Weh Indian Village. They actually remodeled it quite a bit this year, and they did say next year they'll get an even bigger stage for their stuff.

More Indian dancing.

One more smoky Midway shot, on our way home for the day.

And finally, one picture of my Toe Adventures some ~3 1/2 months later because the scab has now finally came off, and I wanted to piss a few people off. Mission accomplished! Thought you could escape my toe that easily, eh?

That wood carver does a brilliant work.

A photo of you is missing, your toe doesn't count

My camera utterly confuses anyone else who wouldn't know how to read the manual.

It's a good thing a fire didn't break out at the sea lion show.

    Also, I recognize that place!

Doesn't it get kinda boring to go to the same place every year?

...It's on Auto in this picture. It is literally a point and shoot in this mode.

That isn't my picture, and I don't have it set to Auto all the time.

Since I'd like to, y'know, actually learn the thing so as to get maximum effectiveness. Auto don't always do that.

Regardless, they'd be lost if I didn't set the thing up for them.

Also, no one would want to see my ugly ass anyway.
