The Great Sengoku Rance Conquest, 1st Stop Hara or Bust

Rate this Entry
Hi there folks, Milbunk here with a new set of blogs that I felt like making for various reasons, (The biggest being boredom.)

Anyway welcome to the Great Sengoku Rance Conquest! In this series of blogs I plan to play the Free For All version of Sengoku Rance with each house giving a little story about how I fared, what the house was like, their story, and more.

Since this is the first in the series expect a big of testing different ways that I'll tell about em and such but hopefully I will at least make it a bit of an enjoyable read, and with that said let's begin first stop Hara!

Also quick apology the Demon Army and Tokuga don't have any flags, I'm hoping to fix that in the near future but for now bear with my bad paint work.

Anyway Hara, who are they?

Headed by Hara Shouji and his wife Akihime, they are generally regarded as the weakest country in the entire game, quite the fine first step if I do say so myself.

First off a quick description of any advantages and weaknesses:

Advantages: Uh Hara's got a mustache and is the only unit in the game who gets prepared volley, oh they also border Iga who have the weakest defense in the game next to muskets.

Weaknesses: Quite a few actually, the first and biggest one is Akihime, she being the snide woman she is takes a total percentage of gold every turn leaving your coffers empty pretty much every turn, this alone is almost game breaking bad and because it's a percentage it scales up with you when you get to the latter half of the game.

Second, they border 3 very annoying countries at the start, Iga whose ninja's often assassinate for insta-kills, Oda who has Rance as well as quite a few other annoyingly strong commanders, and the Tenshi Sect whose main population of monks makes their defense incredibly annoying.

Third, they also have only 3 decent commanders at the beginning of the game and no warriors at all which gives them little to none offensive power.

Finally, You don't get any gold pretty much at all for the majority of the game as Akihime loves to take up to 50% every turn leading to you barely scratching the barrel for replenishing lost troops from the already troublesome countries. (Yes this deserves a second point for how bad a negative it is.)

Notable Units:

Hara Shouji (Archer) Leader of the Hara house and pretty much a slave to anything Akihime demands, his prepared volley is his most useful trait allowing him to attack all units at once, later in the game when you can afford to get his troops in larger numbers he becomes quite useful.

Akihime (Miko) Only useful because of her ability to heal all troops at the same time, other then that she's terrible at everything and steals all your money every turn.

Saijou Mochikiyo (Diviner) Shouji's right hand man and pretty much your only early game attacker, he's your lifeblood so protect him with all you got until you can capture troops later on.

Intro Scenario:

Hara Beginning Scenario
Aki: I would like all of Japan.

*At Aki's words, Shouji stands up*

Shouji: ......We will conquer Japan.

*The subordinates all pity Shouji and decide to fight with him*

In short Shouji gets ordered by Aki to conquer JAPAN and Shouji can't refuse her request so off they go.

Early Game: This was by far the toughest part of the game for me, defending against the constant attacks from countries early on was a near suicidal attempt so in order to get my best attempt at survival going signing peace treaties right away was a must, one tiny lucky streak I has was getting lucky and defeating Iga early on after that they started to pollute the rest of the world with Ninja's actually giving me an easier time from then on.

Mid Game: From this point I again got really really lucky and managed to capture the Miko Natori, from then on most matched became quite easier and the main goal after that was just surviving the retaliations from the other houses, also a funny note but I captured Natori from the Tenshi Sect while the Miko house was still alive so I dunno what she was doing way over there.

Late Game: This is where the challenges truly started to begin, saving/loading was needed just about every action flag and again I got really lucky by recruiting one of the strongest Diviners Nanjou Ran, it was here that I desperately threw troop after troop at the Shimazu brothers and here that Takeda made it's last and fatal stand eventually falling under the combined efforts of me and the Tokugawa house, after that was the simple clean up of Tokugawa before honing in on the One Eyed house and finally reaching this result here:

And then the ending scenario:

Hara Ending Scenario
Aki: Hoho... So even you can do it if you try, huh?

Shouji: ..........

Aki: Oh, how wonderful. I did not think I would obtain Japan.

Shouji: It's not yours only. It is the people's possession.

Aki: Eh...?

Shouji: You are the wife of the emperor now. Do not think that you can keep acting selfishly like you were doing.

Aki: What are you saying to me?

Shouji: You are the wife of the emporer, so be aware of that!

Aki: What...?

Shouji: We will make more enemies if you keep acting the way you were when we only had Ise.

When that happens... I do not know if I could protect you.

It's all for you... Please wake up, Aki...

I don't care about myself... But please, for the sake of the people...!

*Shouji bows to Aki*

Aki:...........

Please raise your head.

Shouji: ...Aki...

Aki: Geez... You're now the emperor of Japan, but how shameful of you...

Shouji: .....

Aki: But it's all because you love me. Is it not?

Shouji: That's right.

Aki: I guess it cannot be helped.

If you insist, I shall act appropriately as the wife of the emperor.

Shouji: Oh...!

Aki: ...Hmph.

Shouji: Thank you, Aki...

Aki: H-Hmph.

In short Hara finally grows a bit of a backbone and as the new emperor of JAPAN fixes up his relationship with Aki, good end all around, most might find such short stories underwhelming but I love these kind of what-ifs no matter how short they may be.

MVP Commander: Natori (Miko) Was included in pretty much every offensive battle and thanks to her percentage dealing attack prevented even the largest of armies from holding their ground.

Top 5 Commanders:

Hara Shouji: Once he got his hands on the Emperor's Ring his offensive attacks grew drastically almost making him as strong as Natori attack wise.

Saijou Mochikiuo: Thankfully granted me a capable early game and held out long enough for me to recruit Natori then his usefullness started to fade away.

Senhime: At first was an alright defender but once she got her hands on the popularity staff her troops nearly doubled in size leading to her destroying any non-footsoldier type troop in one hit.

Hoshino Tomo/Mimura hime: My two other defenders, one had the new guard plus which granted a boost to defense while the other was maxed out in speed leading to a great amount of use for protecting my diviners while they prepared.

kaki: My mid game warrior, while Natori was still in her early phase this warrior was my second main offensive force, able to take down any musket or warrior in just one to two attacks quite handy.

Honorable Deaths:

Maira hime: Mananaged to hold the line against Takeda mid way through after a fierce set of attacks eventually being wiped out and replaced by Mimura.

Final Thoughts:

Hara is probably the hardest house in the entire game to play as, but if ou can manage to beat it then I feel it's well worth the reward, saving and loading are a must and with a final turn count of 194 I feel I did a decent job with them, let's hope my next run is a tiny bit easier than this.

And the next randomly selected house is!.....

Akashi......Dag Nabit.....

So what do you guys think about this project? Any words of advice to give me or criticisms? I'm open to any you guys want to share.

JEBUS it takes conquering Japan for those two to get along?

Interesting - as I'm unlikely to ever play all those IFs. How long did it take for you to do that?

You need a ton of good luck. Abuse the hell out of Akihime saving you money, one should propably get the coral sword for Shouji, though he will suck even with it. Your best bet is defeating small houses fast and then recruiting their comanders. Propably good to ally with Oda, becase you won't be beating them right away, and take out Iga and Tenshi first.

I've finished FFA as Akashi myself. Ended up with Kazemaru being 6/9/9/9/9. Good times, but I couldn't hope to beat the Demon Army and Dokuganryu without randomly managing to recruit Isoroku and solving mostly everything with Whirlwind Shot.
Hara should be even harder, not even sure in which part of the game.

Also, Saijou Mochikiuo is afaik the Diviner with the highest level cap in the game. Not like this matters, but he's quite special, good to try to recruit in main game.

Also wow this comment was a mess, and no, I did not initally read the actual post.

To Hen_Ichi: Let's see it looks like it took me about 2 and a half weeks of constant playing everyday to finally beat it, quite task and requires a lot of good luck.

To Ratman: Yeah Hara was by far no easy task, like I mentioned in my blog the most annoying fact was the whole matter about not being able to hold onto any money cause of Akihime, you pretty much have to Neutral as much as possible because of how weak they are even late game.

Well, if you play Akashi next:
1)Never miss an opportunity for Kazemaru to train. Don't give him the ring until he can no longer raise his stats by training. You propably want to avoid raising his troops through training until he's 4/6/6/6/6, though it will somewhat help in the beginning.
2)Make sure to use the completely useless units at least as spies. Prioritize getting units selectively over fighting all the battles your units can. Abuse barriers. Build mansions as soon as possible because Akashi troopcounts are even worse than Hara.
3)Kazemaru's teachers are kind of useful as bushi, I think they get random abilites, but bushi abilites are good in general. But get footmen and Mikos for them oh god I can't stress this enough.
