So, finished Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies earlier today. And overall... I am very pleased with the purchase. The experience was not flawless; the annoying download-only purchase didn't win any points with me (though it wasn't the nightmare I was expecting from Nintendo's online service!) and Case 2 was a ridiculously over-complicated pit of madness even by the standards of the series. And, while I'm not sure this is a flaw since the sequel hooks are clear and there's no way Capcom is letting this series die, I would have enjoyed seeing a little more of the lingering threads from Apollo's game.

That said, new rookie attorney Athena Cykes is a load of fun, new prosecutor Simon Blackquill is mah boy, and 99% of the new characters were also very likable (Robin Newman in particular is damnably amazing, trust me). Add in some very clever mysteries and some very cool cameos from old favorites, and it's an experience I found to be not at all... objectionable.

When I was first playing it I was totally expecting the characters to remain as static sprites. And then Athena started moving and was actually a 3D model and I was all "holy crap I've entered the future."

    It was a nice experience.

Other than the lack of examination of anything other than relevant crime scenes (a major flaw for the funnies), Dual Destinies was pretty cool. I don't hate Case 2 as much as most people apparently, but then again, I didn't hate 2-3 either. In fact,

    One of those many twists
I thought Tenma Taro being Phineas and he was the one who was holding on to the hand-cream was an excellent subversion. It was going to fall into the "Obvious evidence to tie culprit into court" and "L'Belle was the Tenma Taro" but then NOPE.

How, exactly, did the download experience work? Because living out in the ass-end of the States as I do, that part is a serious concern as to whether I get a 3DS at all, with games like this being one of the key reasons to get one.

It wasn't a problem for me, but I also don't have any idea how long it took; I kinda just started the download and let it run while I was at work, and it was done when I got home. Still, the connection didn't break or anything, so as long as you have a solid internet connection I think it should be fine.
