A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Convention...

Long, long ago, I went to Anime Revolution 2012 in Vancouver and saw the events, bought the swag, and photographed the cosplayers.

Just a few months or so back, I happened to actually meet up with one of those cosplayers. In fact, we actually work together and live in the same town, which really is kind of surprising. You might vaguely remember her from my AR blog here, in which I mistook her for the actually super famous cosplayer/model Jessica Nigri.

The girl in question is Rion Risque.

Anyhow, she's a good friend of mine now, and I think it's decent to help her get famous. She hopes to make a profession out of cosplaying, and she does a pretty damn good job of it - her costumes are hand-made, and she honestly enjoys doing cosplay. She does good work, and ought to be recognized for it! As a person she enjoys long walks to Subway, laments her lack of a PS3, and hopes senpai will notice her.

Go give her Facebook page a like! Hopefully someday, she can be as famous as that one person I originally mistook her for.

    I don't think she's even played/watched Fate or Tsukihime. Hm, but I'll have to suggest Arc to her! Saber is an overdone cosplay, lol.

    I only suggested those two because blondes, if she is willing to dye, perhaps a sion or ciel. Hell, even zepia is possible lol.

    She's got red hair at the moment, but dying would definitely be possible. I know she's been working on finishing up a Zero Suit Samus costume recently. :3

    You know, female cosplayers don't need to dye their hair. (Dying your hair constantly tends to fry it out.) Wigs work really nicely if you know where you're getting them from.

    A friend of mine is a hard core cosplayer, she's even paid to make other costumes for people, and she rarely uses her real hair.

    man i wish i could make a career out of being lazy and scratching my genitalia all day but i doubt thats a viable outlook on life

    Not to mention that no matter how dedicated that girl is if her version of Annie aims not for accuracy and craftsmanship but for showing off her actually very attractive body (my compliments to the lady) I doubt that she'll get much recognition in a scene which is as open to such cosplay ideas as a strict Catholic father.

    Then again it worked for JNig so what do I know!

    She's actually gotten a surprising amount of recognition so far - and to note, that Annie cosplay was specifically for a swimsuit contest, she threw it together in a few hours.

    I wish her the best but honestly cosplay is not a real career opportunity on this side of the globe unless you want to live like a hobo.

    *ignores derples*

    Thing is, cosplay folks don't just do cosplay. They also make outfits for people, general modeling, etc. Famous enough cosplayers can go to cons for free, as well - and Jessica Nigri definitely isn't the only famous professional cosplayer. There are plenty more; like anything, it just requires effort and persistence.

    That means you, too, I3uster, could be a German rap legend.

    I3uster will never be a German rap legend, he is instead working on being a famous mindhacker and the head of the Atlas organization.
