In Which Stuff Happens

So, I was interviewed, like a real author or something!

You know, it's been a while since I've posted and I figured I might check in and say hello. Or something.

First off, for those curious I've posted the full guide to how to write porn on my blog. You know, my real blog. The one I should really update more.

Anyway, it is there and uninterrupted. So if anyone wants to take a gander at they're more than welcome to. However, I do find it ironic that I really haven't written anything lemony or erotic in over a year. Last thing I can remember writing that was porntastic was that dare for Mike. Oh wait, there was a horrid Lancer/Archer drabble I did off the top of my head in the yaoi thread. I wasn't proud of that one, but that's beyond the point!

So I haven't written porn in a while.

I also haven't written any fanfiction for a while either. I haven't really been inspired to do so honestly. Then again, I'm working on my original stuff and it's going somewhere.

In fact, my Jukepop serial The Law Unto Herself Chronicles has been in the Top 30 since September. I would like to thank those who've voted here. However, being in the Top 30 means that there's obviously an audience for my story that is past Beast's Lair. Of course, this pleases me greatly. It means people like my story of a neurotic vampire who has a bit of a hero complex and the Faerie fighting the forces of evil, all the while having to deal with Faeries, werewolves who bite her hands off, and other things.

I'll be posting a new cover for the serial soon, done by our very own Artee. (I just need to have the title and stuff typeset.)

One thing I've found out that doing a serial is a great motivator for getting stuff in on time. I average about two chapters a month (considering I have a full time job that has a fuck ton of overtime that's sort of impressive) and due to the voting system I know that there are people actively reading it. Even though there really isn't any comments (I think a lot of people read it on their phones), at least I get to see that people like it. Which is a great motivator for me.

Not to mention it feels really good to play with a world and characters of my creation. I'm not going to lie, my set up is sort of simple: Generic Urban Fantasy World X. However, my characters really aren't. For those who've read the story, let me just say Rufus. He was originally just suppose to be Henchman 1 inspired by the lacky in the first Blade movie ("I'm gonna be a naughty vampire god!"), but he ascended sort of like Henchman 21 on The Venture Brothers. Except, still an antagonist.

However since this is the opening story for the Law Unto Herself verse, I have to keep the story fairly light. Like how in most Urban Fantasy stories the deep shit doesn't start happening to a couple of books in. There's a part of me that's quite dark and likes to write that way. However, in hind site there's a reason why most Urban Fantasy stories don't start out with ULTIMATE GRIMDARK. (Well, the Sonja Blue stuff did, but that's technically more Splatterpunk than urban fantasy.)

You wanna know what that reason is?

You'll alienate the reader.

Apparently you have to get the audience hooked with the witty dialogue and unlucky hero(ine) while getting involved with the supernatural hijinks. Do that for the first book and then I can tip-toe the readers more and more into stuff. I mean, the witty dialogue isn't going to go away, but the situations are going to get more grim, well, more intense.

So, I've rambled a lot so yep.
