Reversal of Logic

Eh, might as well drop off a blog post while I'm here.

...A blog about blogs, coincidentally. :V ...Sorta. Kinda. Not really.

See, reading one of the more recent civil rights relevant blogs had something show up again that I've seen a few times, and yet confuses me a bit. ...That is, the thing where some guy says some lady who is said to be a feminist objected to them holding the door open for her.

...Maybe it's because I kinda live under a rock, or I'm the wrong gender to actually have it happen to her, or I live in the wrong area for it or something, but I've never seen this happen before, nor have I heard about it happening outside a few isolated testimonials on the internet.

I honestly don't think any feminist beyond those on the far more radical side of the scale would openly object to having the door opened for them like that. I know I never have. If someone says, "I hold the door open for women to be a gentleman," I might have a mild debate about the reasoning I guess, assuming I feel like it. But actually holding the door open? I just automatically assume they're doing it to be nice, maybe say "thank you," and go on my way.

Basically, the reason you should hold the door open is to be nice, regardless of gender, race, etc. I do prioritize the elderly or people that obviously have a harder time walking when I hold the door open, but that's more because it's harder for them to get in than anything. That's my reasoning for holding the door open for people, anyway, to be nice. And that's usually the reasoning I assume people have, even if that's not actually the case. Including men. So yeah.

...on a lighter note, has anyone been in that situation where they know they've held the door open for long enough, but people keep coming through, and you know you'll feel bad if you let the door go and potentially hit someone in the face with it, so you stand there forever until most everyone's through? ...Or am I one of those idiots that's too nice for their own good? ^^"

I personally hold the door open for anyone who is right behind me, be male, female, trans, Leo or whatever. Never really saw the gender issue here, I guess, but the whole problem seems to be an artifact of another era where it was gentlemanly to hold the door open for ladies or whathaveyou. Meanwhile nowadays you hold the door open for anyone no matter what it happens to be, to not be a dick.
