New York, New Yoooooooooooork

Rate this Entry
I think this is the City That Never Sleeps, right??

EXiku and I are here for a week for a friend's wedding, and while we're going to be pretty busy, we're trying to see what we can see of the big city, like the proper tourists we are.

Already I introduced EXiku to the deliciousness of Philly cheese steak, and she's had the unique North American experience with street evangelists, and we also had some White Castle. All this is just from a bit of walking and bussing around from our hotel here in Jamaica.

What do you people of BL reccomend we see, eat or do? Also, if there are any NYC BLers around who want to hang out, we might be able to say hi!

One bad thing though: our baggage got lost on the way in, so we don't know if we'll get our stuff back and we had to spend most of our money on clothes. :/

The obvious is not eating from street vendors, and to brace yourself if your trunk gets broken into.

White Castle is awesome (dude from Jersey here). They do pickles and onions in your burger right, and their onion rings are fantastic.

I haven't been in NY in awhile, so food recs are beyond me. If you were in Jersey however...I could tell you where to get really awesome subs, pizza, and the best fucking ice cream place ever (the ice cream place especially, thought it's in a pretty seedy part of Paterson). But as for NY, hmm, try out some pizza. Can't leave NY without trying that.

Eh, I've only been to the ones in Saint Louis.

Come to think of it, I never saw a White Castle while living in Florida at all.

It's a fast food chain on the East Coast and the American midwest. They're famous for these little burgers called Belly Bombers, because they can apparently do a number to your digestive system. I don't think it exists west of the Rocky Mountains.

The food looks tragic even in the promo shots...

Those pictures are not ecen close to what we had :/

Anyway, local BL'ers - if you want to come and say 'Hi' we're here until Monday 30th June; this may be your only chance because who knows when we (rather Five, since I'm a lurker now) will be here next...of course we'll be coming back to visit my buddy again.

We should be free tomorrow until the evening (I'm thinking that's when the reception is) and Saturday. I realise now, that we should have mentioned our trip before...we'll definitely remember to next time we're coming by : )

Well, over the last couple of fays, we went to Grimaldi's in Brooklyn; there, because EXiku had been nice enough to hold the door open for some people who were taking out tier pizza, we got a free extra pizza after our original order! That was nice, and both pizzas were incredibly delicious - but since the second one had pepperoni on it, I had to eat it alone. I managed to do that, but barely. Even Grimaldi's small pizzas are pretty big.

Afterwards that day, we enjoyed the pier and park in Brooklyn under the bridge, with an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline. Because of issues on the subway, that was all we could do that day. >.>

Yesterday, we decided to go to The Bronx Zoo. We kind of got lost along the way and got to the zoo fairly late, so we didn't get to see everything. The zoo was really nice, though, and very natural and park-y, and what we did see was cool. Probably better than the London Zoo!

Then we went back to our hotel after buying some chocolate.

Today we're not doing much, just wandering around the area, buying clothes and going to a mosque.

So we saw Times Square (it was shitty), saw the Rockefeller Centre (it was okay, Lego store and Nintendo World were cool though) as well as the Empire State Building. The view was great, bit I think it would have been nicer if Manhattan wasn't filled with giant buildings all around.

We would've checked out the Statue of Liberty, but we got there too late so we just checked it out from a distance.

Now, to see Central Park and Shakespeare and stuff for our last daynhere.

    We met Pedro Pascal today!

Today was dedicated to going to Central Park and watching Much Ado About Nothing, but it started off badly because we got lost in the subways and got to Delacorte Theatre too late to queue up for tickets.

Instead, we stood for about 4 hours in the standby ticket line, had some food and drinks, and met a couple nice girls who were waiting in line beside us.

Then we watched the play together, and it was excellently done, and afterwards met Pedro Pascal. We couldn't get a photo with him because it was so dark, but instead got a hug and his autograph. He's a really cool guy!

Now I will be gone from BL for some time as I return home to jolly England.

The more I read about this, the more I miss my time in New York and wish I had had more than four days to look around and stuff.

Hope you two enjoyed your trip! :3
