As in the Gameboy Advance game with that as the actual title, not the franchise as a whole
You know, the one with Eliwood
I'm about eight stages in, and I'm awful at this so far. It's the super-easy tutorial section with Lyn, and I just had to restart because one of my best guys got killed. I know that the party in the tutorial section shows back up in Eilwood's mode--another one of the game's many generous features to newbies--but, damn it, I really like Kent. He's been double-attacking things to death left and right, and I like his straight-laced personality more than Sain's skirt-chasing schtick. (Though I still like Sain and he does almost as well as Kent)
If I'm already having this much trouble, this is going to be a long, painful play through.
I had actually considered jumping in with Path of Radiance, which my brother loves, but a friend suggested the "original" English Fire Emblem was a better starting point if I didn't want to drop the money on Awakening.
I've always liked the swords-and-sorcery genre, though I'm more used to Final Fantasy and similar turn-based RPGs. (Final Fantasy 4, 6 and 8 are my personal favorites. I stopped playing at 10.) Strategy RPG has always been a rarer breed for me, mostly because I'm so bad at these games.
The same is true of board games, which I play fairly regularly with my friends on drunk board game nights. I don't really think ahead, so I stumble forward with what seems like a good idea at the time instead of considering how these choices will hurt me in the next turn. Sure, rushing in to whittle down the boss' HP or capture some of my friend's territory in Small World may seem like a good idea at the time.
Then I get mauled on the counterattack.
But I'm learning. I think.
