Photoshop!

Well, sort of. GIMP's the best free alternative, I've read.

I've decided to learn how to do basic cleaning and typesetting of manga/comics. Hopefully this means that in the future, I won't have to rely on other people to release anything on my behalf.

(I posted this mainly thinking of Japanese webcomics, so not much actual cleaning is required. Just text replacing)

    That's nice.

Photoshop has a lot of options, but once you get past the wide-eyed sense of intimidation its fairly simple to employ.

It's a bit late, but for typesetting you really ought to consider using a vector program, not a raster program. Illustrator if you can afford it, Inkscape if not.

    For scanlations, really?

Raster is better for cleaning, but for the typesetting itself? It's just easier to manipulate the text in a vector program, especially for things like sound effects.
