Transmission #7: Modern Warfare 3 Survival Game Shenanigans

So yeah, I hate the Modern Warfare series. All the gameplay and campaign Infinity Ward put out in all those three games could have just been crammed into a single game. Seriously. That's my utmost complain from the game itself. The choice of weapons are too, I didn't like most of them and the only weapons I liked were the revolvers, the 1887 (But they made it look tactically ugly. And I miss the one-hand double barrel from the second game.) and UMP45 (Reminds me of Counter Strike.) I don't like any attachments. The assault rifles? Their interface crosshairs don't differ from Counter Strike's submachine guns, which means you should go out there and charge like a madman with the rifle. As for the multiplayer community that allegedly comprises of screaming preteens that think they're so OPERATOR just from playing the game, I dunno. I never played the multiplayer before.
But still, because I have nothing to do, decided to try the survival mode for the first time. The map was named Underground. And the first weapon that was given was the Five-seven. I wonder why the developers chose this proprietary-round handgun as the the first weapon. Why not something of .45 or 9mm instead? And then, the radio transmission saying that 'we', which mean the game is supposed to be played as a team, have to survive as long as hell doesn't freeze over. Oh, right. We are supposed to be an elite task force trapped behind enemy lines, so that's why the gun was supposed to be cool looking, not practical.
Then, the first waves of 1887-armed enemies. Jesus Christ, they were like charging the Japanese back in the Second World War. And try as you might, you won't have no choice but to get hit with a few bullets which, if it had been in Counter Strike, should have meant you're fucked. Granted, I had 250 body armor, but CS only had 100 and even if you had it, it'll only lighten the damage a bit, not completely block it. Needless to say, since the only good thing that came out from Call of Duty were iron sights, I was able to fend them off and get their 1887. Then the weapons armory is online. But I don't want to use it.
After six waves, the difficulty spiked up from enemies with 1887 and attack dogs to enemies with submachine guns. And since they are still charging like crazy, along with some suicide bombers armed with USAS12, I was forced to drop the 1887 and get their USAS12. (We also have MP5s at CS, but I rather get a rifle.) By that time, I think the equipment and air support armory is online, but I still don't want to use it. That is, until the helicopters came. Then was forced to use the Predator Missiles.
After a few waves of survival, I found myself throwing away everything that I learned from Counter Strike and I was charging like a maddened John Rambo in steroids. Now, I'm playing like a Cowwadooty kid, I said to myself. I could finally understand now. You are supposed to be a mindless motherfucker gunning down every enemy in sight, only using melee when near. You are supposed to feel like a badassed soldier in this way. That's why kids love this game, they could just blindly fire at an enemy and kill it. If critical, take cover for a while, then get back a blast caps like a motherfucker. Maybe that's why most of the assault rifles are like submachine guns in practice and function. (Most of them were full-auto. Good for intimidation, but waste of bullets.)
And then it hit me.
Didn't US experience some incidents of school shootings in the past? Most of the perpetrators of these shootings were teens or post-teens, with a lot of extremist beliefs and repressed anger. (Read: You're reading a blog entry from one now.) Now, the liberals and moralists are whining that these kinds of games, along with gun ownership, are fueling them into doing such things. Nope, not personal issues, school bullying or parental neglect. Hell, in UK, they linked the game Manhunt into a murder. Incorrectly. Seriously, violent vidya gets flak from these things.
Now, this game, which glorifies violence, encourages you to defeat your enemies like a charging and raging brat out of hell. Obviously, if you do this in real life, you won't even get to fire your gun, you are a sure cannon fodder. That's why the assault rifles are not too different from submachine guns functionally in game, as opposed to having a longer range in real life, or a more focused HUD reticle in older games. Also, the sniper rifles are damned too accurate, as opposed to their real-life counterparts. Okay, CS also does that thing. But it is also a game.
I could point out many gameplay differences in this game from the older games, but I won't make an exhaustive list. So, according to my observation, Modern Warfare series is an example of the video game industry making games less realistic while marketing them to kids are "more realistic" to filter out potential school shooters by making them think this game is a perfect training tool, when it is not.
Makes me wonder why they still think violent video games cause body count.
