nanoha fanfiction is kind of boring

since i like reading about fictional lesbians, i also like reading nanoha fanfiction. the two go hand in hand, much like me and the nearest girl friend i can find whenever i'm drunk.

i dont have any illusions about this fandom. a good chunk of it is made up of weird lolicons and fetishists. there's also a good number who take the military aspects of the show a tad too seriously. and when either of these groups attempt to write nanoha yuri it usually ends up as not very good.

you'll rarely see anyone write a nanoha romance fic that is not nanofate. it technically isnt a bad thing. it speaks highly of their canon relationship (albeit those two being in love isnt canon, though it might as well be) that pairing either of them up with anyone else is out of question for most. nanoha is a solid character, but main protagonists rarely have a personality that does not border on bland, and nanoha isnt an exception. fate, with her insecurities and past abuse, is where the focus usually is. with nanoha there isnt really anything, except that bizarre thing where she feels 'lonely' among her family. now, it's certainly possible to make something interesting out of that, but i found that most authors dont succeed in it.

the setting doesnt help either. just once i'd like to see an au that throws them into college instead of the damn high school. high school isnt really all that interesting, and it usually ends up just being - i dont even want to say 'cliché', just... generic. it's always the same. im not a fan of yuuno (because i usually am not a fan of token male characters in magical girl shows who have no interesting personality), but seeing him being some kind of generic school bully jock asshole is just plain boring. i never understood why you had to bash a character you dont like when you could just ignore them. it's like i'm 13 again and reading naruto fanfiction where sasuke tries to murder naruto because he put a whoopee cushion under sasuke's butt when he wasnt looking and embarrassed him in front of the entire class.

what's with this weird trend to make fate into some kind of womanizer as well? is it popular to give someone a complete 180 in personality? fate is a complete loser nerd in canon. that's why she's likeable in the first place. it ends up with nanoha reigning her in anyhow, and those kind of fanfics suspiciously feel like im reading hetero garbage disguised as yuri. *squints*

anyhow this rant is a product of me being mad that nobody pairs fate up with signum. what's with that? they have a good dynamic and signum is hot and serious. and she has pink hair. please write more fate/signum

    Sounds pretty typical of the fanfiction I saw back when I used to read it regularly. In other words, it's the same in all fandoms.

    The Nanoha fanfiction scene is spectacularly mediocre. It's like someone decided they couldn't abide the 1/1000 good 'fics or the 5/10 disgustingly bad 'fics that you usually find, and averaged them out, so there are slightly fewer trash 'fics and virtually no good ones at all.

    The only interesting thing about it is that the Spaniards have really latched onto the show for some reason.

    I say the Spaniards. They could be from anywhere that speaks Spanish.

    that's a pretty good way to put it. i dont know if those long military-oriented fics are any better. i tried reading one of them once, saw a male oc, and immediately closed the window in disgust

    I've seen a numbr of Fate/Signum doujins, but at least half of them are either futa or fate and signum.x random military officer or otaku, so bleh.......

    As i am kind of part of the lolicon and fetishist crowd, i mayi dunno how much i can say there, but.... Yeah.

    i quit the internet for a day after I saw M-OC GuP shit

    this kind of stuff is so awful

    girls und panzer is just going too far, it's too pure to be soiled with that kind of stuff.

    NanoFate fans can be vicious, especially if you don't understand why they hate Yuuno or even just bring him up.
    Nanoha herself does suffer anime-protagonist syndrome, as you say.

    Although the fandom tends to give Nanoha some memetic Yandere traits because of some scenes in A's and StrikerS.

    Also are there seriously fics that make Yuuno, of allpeople, a jock? Dude is the Nerd-type through and through, how'd he even get to such a change?
