Scavenged from the Wonderland of Rebirth: Artificial Memorial of Perfection

Who is Who? or Who are these jerks?: Roe/Rokai

Rate this Entry
Warning: Long. Also, kinda spoilery. And kinda trampling on morals. And not for the weak soul who pines for happy endings.
Remember what I said about Doppels being the personification of a person's sins, fears, and doubts in Melissa's entry? Cuz that's important here.
There once lived a powerful mage by the name of Jane Haart. Granted the power of Purity, she learned from a mad seer that 'Purity is the curse that shall bring low all of creation'.
Jane didn't particularly mind that. What she did mind was that Purity was slowly driving her insane.
With the help of her own band of Perfect Manikins, she divested herself of that power, intentionally creating a being that would act the scapegoat of such a corrupting influence. Immeadiately afterwards, she sealed that being into the Interstice of the Dimension.
That being was Rokai.
With what intelligence he had through the in-grained madness of Doppel-creation, Rokai transported the Interstice to the realm where Jane had retreated to afterwards, and subsequently began forcing the floating castle downwards, in hopes of destroying the targeted realm. The residents, including Jane, objected to that, so they forced their way in, annihilated everything in sight, stole all the books in the library, and obliterated Rokai.
If only things were that simple, since Rokai was a Doppel, he was resurrected for his second life, along with Melissa, who had been in the Interstice when the heroes came barging in. Having obtained an ultimate power for himself, the intelligence to use it, and a subordinate with a game-breaking ability, he planned for a new goal: immortality.

INverse: Not much, he pretty much lays low. Most of what he does here is also done in REverse. What Rokai does do that is different is that he absorbs and imprisons the souls of two dreaming mages. Also, when an universal anomaly appears, he investigates. He is met with kuni, who bribes him with an artifact that can nullify any power to leave immediately.

REverse: Accessing the Hell-dimension Niflheim and its stronghold, the Gate of Illusion, Rokai learns of a bloodline that had massive magical potential that could lead to unimaginable feats under the right circumstances. Thinking that such ability shouldn't go to waste, he takes on the name Roe Kunikai to seduce the youngest and newest of that bloodline: Hana *insertmaidennamehere*.
This works. This works very well. One could say this works far too well, for from the time he began this plot to the birth of their second daughter, Rokai fell in love with Hana and the family he'd created.
Yet, Rokai could not, would not stray from the path he'd chosen. The condition to unlock the magic potential of the two daughters he'd fathered, Sakuri and Eri Kunikai, was mind-breaking torture. The sole place tailored for such a thing was the Hell-dimension Jigoku, where sinners are punished for all eternity.
So he laid the bait and waited. So he waited for the moment his first daughter threw a fit and took the bait in her anger. So he walked away from his house and family when it and they were sucked into a portal to Hell.
Sucks to be them. *Falcon-Punched*
Rokai witnessed every moment, every death, every cry, every teardrop, every step towards depravity, immorality, corruption that his family suffered. He watched as Kismet no Makai, Doppel of Sakuri, was born, writhing in a body far too small in a realm far too maddening. He watched as Melissa Malakai, Doppel of Eri, was brought into being, mind scarred from the unimaginable anguish she was created from. He forced himself to watch, because no one else would.
And then he had enough. He saved his daughter, Sakuri, offering her freedom for her service towards his cause. The girl, mind on the brink of hysteria, accepted.
He saved his wife Hana, exorcising her soul and allowing her to reach paradise. She protested all the way, worried for the well-being of Eri.
...He could not save Eri. Her body had been defiled and mangled beyond salvation. Her soul, however...
He took the body of girl named Hatsuki Towada. He extracted her soul. Then, he took Eri's damaged soul, editted some memories, and placed it in Hatsuki's body. That was the most he could do, for he knew, from the Gate of Illusion's prophecies that someone else would save her.
As if to make up for his transgression against an innocent, he created a Perfect Manikin of his daughter and placed the soul of Hatsuki Towada in it, unwittingly dooming her to 'loyal' service.
And then... with a veritable and broken 'Princess of Hell' at his command, he sought to make his wish come true.
He would have the Seven Needles pulled, thus awakening Shinryu and allowing his wish of immortality to be realized.

The First Needle was located in the Hell-dimension Jade's stronghold, Pandaemonium. Deposing Satan was simple.
The Second Needle was located in Aselia. Tricking the son of two famous warriors to pull it was easy when he was wrought in despair.
The Third Needle was found atop the Tower of Guidance in Tellius. Reanimating the dead made this a snap.
The Fourth Needle was hidden away within the Tower of Bab-il in the Blue Planet. Finding the exact moment to possess a man-halfway-turned-demon was tricky, yet doable.
The Fifth Needle was located on Earth, surprisingly enough. No one seemed able to pull it... but placing puppet-strings on a runaway Perfect Manikin solved the problem.
The Sixth Needle was smuggled away in *redacted*. After much preparing, Rokai blitzkriegs his way through, then blackmails one powerful resident to pull the needle for him.
The Seventh Needle... was located in the Afterlife. The Afterlife that he had (by the time of the First Needle pulling) already conquered, divided, and made impassable.

Simply gaining an immortal life was not enough. What Rokai, in whatever delusion he was in, thought he needed was a rival or two to make possible a grand final battle, with the residents of the REverse as the audience to witness and immortalize in their memories.
The two he chose for this purpose? His daughter, Eri Kunikai the Anti-Mage, and the one he was divested from, Jane Haart.
So in his hubris, he allowed for the Afterlife to be taken back. He allowed for Hatsuki Towada to do whatever she wished, which would eventually lead to her betrayal and later meddling against him. He struck down Melissa when she proved traitorous, sealing her powers and giving her exactly what she deserved. He pronounced judgment, killing all the sinners in the Afterlife when he confirmed the safety of those deserving paradise.
At the end of the path he chose, Roe Kunikai faced his would-be killers, and laid bare his soul. He proclaimed he was proud of his daughter, that he was honored to be met with his better half.
They fought. Rokai lost. First through swordsmanship. Then through spellcards. And finally a blend of each. With his last breaths, Rokai purified Jane Haart, forcibly making that which would embody Sin in every way to manifest in order to escape destruction.

Roe Kunikai died.
Rokai was reborn, minutes later, as the immortal Door to Paradise, where he would exist for all eternity, watching over his family from afar.
He got exactly what he wished for: immortality, and his family's happiness. And eternity torturing that bitch Melissa.

SUBverse: Taking place during the REverse (probably after the Second Needle), Rokai enters a dream where he never betrayed his family and they lived relatively happy. He acknowledges such a thing as an illusion as he works to uncover the identity of one who would meddle in his plans *coughthefutureselfoftheperfectmanikinwhowasmanipu latedintopullingthefifthneedlecough*.

Random get!
Roe really, really, really, really freaking hates Melissa after her stunt in REverse. Don't be surprised if he kills her when she speaks up.
Otherwise, Roe is rather calm and collected under normal circumstances. Mentioning his family won't net you friend points, however.
The sole surefire way to distract Roe? Dance Dance Revolution.
