I've been a working emergency medical technician for a little over a year now. That's a fancy way of saying I drive people to the hospital in an ambulance sometimes and even do CPR on the side of the road on occasion. I always tell my friends that I hope we never see each other at work.

I have learned a lot here, but it is time for me to move on. I applied to several fire departments in January and February, but then COVID put those plans on indefinite hold.

Now those departments are starting to get back to me with the next steps in the hiring process.

My first choice is a fire service that does a combined firefighter/paramedic program at their firefighter academy. That would open a lot more doors for me than picking one or the other. But even if my first choice doesn't choose me, I will be just fine.

Someone told me fire is like the mob. Almost impossible to get into, but once you do, you are a made man. I will be able to get a job anywhere.

I will probably blog my way through the academy once I get in.
