Timely Attack on Chaldea Servant

Rate this Entry
Well well well. I was having a bit of trouble trying to work some things out for the second sheet. Turned out, I was overthinking it way, way too much and the answer was literally simple.

Lets do the sequel, electric boogaloo style.

It began with a man.

A man who sought the truth of the world.

While exploring abandoned ruins he found an ancient tablet in a script he did not understand.

Regardless he was able to pry information from it.

Immediately he deemed it unfit for mankind and sealed it away.

Yet it did not sleep.

It simply passed hands that would safe-keep it.

In return, they were permitted its use.

Those that abused it would go mad.

This is the story of a certain artifact that passed hands leaving a trail of madness in its wake.

It is the origin of the Emerald Tablets of Thoth.

... Berserker. Tell me, master. Do you seek knowledge...?

Emerald Tablets of Thoth

In ancient times there existed the first god, of which counted were the Sumerian Gods. They made living things to do their duties for them. Among these was the divine bird Anzu. Anzu was unsatisfied with their lot in life and eventually sought to elevate themselves. They schemed and eventually decided to steal the tablets of destiny for this purpose.

Yet it did not go according to plan. He was caught red-handed. He escaped but his crimes were known and a hunt began. So Anzu hid the tablets to try and escape punishment. Yet as he discovered, this was not enough. He was summarily executed and the tablets were lost. At least, that's what the gods assumed.

Hermes Trismegistus, a human alchemist who studied the world for truth, found them amidst the ruins of a forgotten civilization during one of his many lengthy travels. He could not understand the script nor the material it was made of. He returned to his workshop, the headquarters for a cult built up around his search for truth, and with the aid of a few select disciples began to work on its study.

Yet in the end, he wiped the minds of those disciples and locked himself away for a time.

He had discovered its dark truth.

It was a terminal to a place man wasn't ready to touch yet. However, he also knew that as a human, no longer a god, he would eventually perish. Eventually, he settled on simply sealing it. He tried several methods but only one worked. He crafted an artificial spirit to possess the tablet.

It was built to drive mad those that used it any more than a set amount of times determined by the spirit. The point was to prevent humans from abusing it or discovering what it was and to prevent causing incidents Hermes thought it best for the spirit to simply madden magus who became too desperate, reliant, or curious.

Then he was put away and forgotten.

That is until an explorer of the headquarters found him and spirited him away, setting off a chain reaction leading to the creation of Thoth the Atlantean, curse of the Emerald Tablet manifested.

Yet he is not Thoth.

He is what was before Thoth.

A simple curious spirit designed to drive mad magus who got too curious for their own good.

Container Traits
Mad Enhancement
C

Less true madness and more that they simply are inhuman in mindset as well as a tendency to be instinct-driven than thought-driven. As such while their actions appear to be that of insanity, it is simply that they have yet to even think. Even if he were, however, his decision-making and thought processes would be different from normal humans, still having the appearance of madness as a result.

Yet because it is not true madness this skill cannot reach its full potential. After all, even like this...

He can still be understood. Likewise, he can understand others. He must in order to perform his duty. It is simply that these two things never occur simultaneously that he does not experience a rank down. If they ever were to occur then it is likely the skill would, for a time, be ranked down.

Divinity
D

He is a divine curse inhabiting a divine relic.

So naturally he would have this skill.

Yet that is all he is. As such its actual rank is extremely low.

Almost as low as humans who merely claim divinity and are humored.

Cursed Existence
EX

A skill denoting the existence of a living curse.

Whether it was by design or gained, the curse became self-aware and capable of mimicking lifeforms. Even though it pretends otherwise, Atlantean Lily recognizes itself and its place in the universe. It contemplates like any other human and wonders. Even if it refuses to acknowledge such it is an immutable fact that the curse during its lifetime became a confirmed existence.

Yet, due to its nature as a curse, its very existence is cursed. Not burdened by bad luck, not inherently harmful to humans. However its existence, in some manner, is a burden. The curse of the tablet is no exception to this rule. So long as it exists humans will never be able to properly utilize the Terminal of Akasha.

Each servant possessing this skill has a different burden they place upon themselves, others, or both.

In its case, a single word encompasses their burden.

Curiosity

Innate Talents
Loss of Sanity
D

A skill exuding madness that breaks down the ego and mentality of other lifeforms. Yet in his specific circumstance, he only strokes the curiosity of others to the extreme. Pushing them to find answers even to their detriment. It is something as innate to his existence as breathing is to humans. As such it is not as powerful as others with this skill might have.

Still, it is sufficient to drive to madness, ordinary humans and magus. Even greater magus that is not careful will grow insane under his whispering questions.

Discerning Eye
B

In another, this skill discerns weak points in order to help them grow to their full potential even better. A narrow utilization of the Human Observation skill some heroic spirits possess. However, this is not how Atlantean Lily utilizes this skill. He explicitly observes a human to discern their weak points and exploits them. Not in battle, but in temptation.

He observes magus around him discerning where their interests lie. Then using this information he whispers questions into their ear to try and stoke the flames of curiosity. All with the express purpose of attempting to get the magus to overuse the tablet pursuing curiosity after curiosity until they waste away.

Before he can however he must determine what the magus is most curious about. This is done through observation and a discerning eye.

Perhaps if he ever desired to help humans, this skill would improve...

Espionage
B

A skill to conceal himself.

More specifically to prevent detection as a hostile.

So long as he is not aggressive and his identity remains unknown, others will not be able to detect his malice or hostility. Even in the deepest rages, others will at worst find him weird. He cannot force cooperation through this skill but unless an enemy servant manages to see past it they will never even think to attack him even if it is suggested to them.

He will simply ping as an ally or bystander every time...

Directives

The living curse of the emerald tablets of Thoth.

Alternatively, the curse of Hermes upon the tablets of destiny.

Either way, he is the same. A function meant to protect the tablet from misuse. Not through violence but subtle manipulation. He is to use his ephemeral existence to drive unsuspecting magi to madness and ultimately ruin. This has been his purpose since he first existed.

Yet, invariably, he became sentient at some point. He will contend he never did but it is undeniable based on the fact that some questions of his are genuine questions. Despite his existence, he himself is curious and wishes to learn just like those who utilize the tablet he protects.

He rejects this premise, finding the situation lamentable.

Of course, there is another reason for this rejection. He knows his ultimate fate. His rise to protector of humanity and, eventually, fall to beasthood. As a lily servant of such an existence, he rejects this fate and in order to avoid it indulges in willful ignorance of his status.

He pretends to merely be a thinking function.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Even to his own detriment.

So long as he does not become a Beast, an Evil of Humanity, he is content to be merely a function and not a person.

In that sense, a Master should be cautious. If they ever hear whispers and are definitely a magus then they must take precautions up to and including the use of command spells. It means that their own servant has started targeting them. Only showing total disinterest and not listening to the whispers is the way to avoid the destiny of madness that awaits them should they indulge in the temptations spoken by their servant.

Curse of the Tablet

Rank
D

A rather unique noble phantasm that represents the form of its existence. In life, it was attached to the 'Emerald Tablets of Thoth' alternatively known as 'the Records of Akasha' or 'the Tablets of Destiny'. Regardless of which name is accurate the fact remains that the 'Curse of Thoth' must have 'the Emerald Tablets' normally to exist, even as a servant.

This noble phantasm exists solely as a workaround.

Utilizing its status as a berserker, and it's capacity to distort perception, it can designate other things and even some people as 'the Emerald Tablet'. By doing so it may possess the item and manifest physically through it. Akin to how a spirit may possess an item and manifest its body around it utilizing mana.

However, there are two requirements for him to utilize his noble phantasm.

First, the item in question must be in some way mystical. A jeweled skull, a carved staff, or even a noted globe. While other noble phantasms can be covered under this noble phantasm, the fact remains that by and large the noble phantasm must be mystical in some manner. If it is divine at all, this noble phantasm cannot even target it for possession.

Secondly, he must be alone with the item for precisely one minute. This is to invoke the incantations required to mark it as 'the Emerald Tablet'. Should the item have resilience against magecraft then without its owner's permission this noble phantasm will fail.

Should he fail to possess an item then he cannot exit his spirit form period. He can utilize his skills to an extent but not as actively as if he were physical. Generally, when summoned, he will possess the catalyst used to summon him. If none was used then an imitation emerald tablet will be summoned.
