So, I wanna get around to write that one fanfic I had an idea for, and I pretty much maneuvered myself into a trap here.
I want it to take place after F/SN happened, a few months or so, so if we ignore timeline headaches for now somewhere between 2000-2001.
Now, the problem I have is that I wanted the main character to be a Serbian dude, because I can.
Well, shit.
I am now combing through as much information as I can regarding the various conflicts in the area to hammer out a decent backstory, and I will never, ever lose the feeling in the back of my head that I, even if I only make very, very vague comments on the issue in whatever I write I will end up writing something utterly stupid and contradictory. How do I avoid this? I really have no idea.
And I am somehow not confident in starting my writing until I really got a goddamn grasp on literally everything that happened there, the problem being that this conflict is far too complicated to get a good grasp on, so I am left wandering and searching the web for whatever I can get.
So, to mitigate that I picked a big Serbian city on which I will base the city in the story on. The city will only come up like once or twice, but still, I wanted to be halfway accurate. If I keep my research local, I can surely be satisfied with what I got, no?
I can't find English information about that goddamn city during the various post-Jugoslavian wars. It's a fucking research nightmare.
