Alchemy.

Thought by some to be the predeccesor to Chemistry, the field of science that revolutionized mankinds understanding of the universe.

Likewise however some think differently.

They consider Alchemy to simply be pure superstition practiced by madmen and frauds.

Yet still there are different opinions.

Some believe that alchemy is a philosophy, meant to guide prospective students on the path of proper science.

Regardless of the reasons, most of its methods are hidden by their practitioners.

Whether due to it being taboo, it being a danger to society, or simply out of embarressment at practicing it.

For some reason few alchemists ever published their work unredacted and uncoded.

Not even the one who inspired humanity's foremost expert of Gravity.

Not even the 'master of secrets' could stand others knowing what he knew.

History

So you seek my own history.

A poor question, student. Histories is like secrets. So long as you keep them in shadows, they have limitless potential. Endless power.

...

Fine, however.

My history has already been exposed by truth and its potential almost completely squandered. So if I'm to invest whatever potential remains, it shall be you my student. However realize the power you hold. I am willingly giving you not only secrets about myself I tried to keep hidden, but the power they hold.

Now, as I said most of my history is public.

I was the son of a painter. I attended Harvard where I attained an interest in Alchemy and became a Philosopher by Fire. Then I moved to Boston and unsatisfied with the material quality there moved to London where I married Susanne. I incurred debt researching alchemy but made friends with Hartlib. Then I went to jail briefly for the debt I incurred for my research.

After my release I continued my research and work until eventually the Plague claimed my life.

However there are a few secrets I kept from the public.

Most prominently was that... I was on the right track. I successfully made a Diana's Tree, which in terms of alchemical quality is a step below a working philosopher's stone.

Additionally, all my products were the result of alchemy. I knew medicine but never once truly practiced it.

Finally my membership to the Invisible College was rumored but never confirmed. I shall do so now... and not the Hartlib Circle. That was merely the public face of the society. Due to my work with alchemical furnaces, medicine, perfumes, and the successful creation of a Diana's Tree I was given an invitation to the real college which I accepted.

So there you have it.

Your teacher is a bit of a fraud... but a real alchemist.

Aren't your honored?

Class Skills
Magic Resistance
E+

A skill belonging to several classes, Watcher being among them.

George never fought other mages in life, though has met them on occassion and talked in a professional capacity. In the Invisible College he was well-respected for his talent in Alchemy and some magus' gave him tips on defending against magecraft.

As such while he only qualifies for this skill by virtue of his class container, he receives a plus modifier for the tips he received whenever facing magecraft from the modern era.

As a result he has a general low-level resistance to magecraft and when faced with magecraft derived from the 17th century onward can only nullify single-action spells that are not greater magecraft. Further, as a general rule, all greater magecraft bypass Magic Resistance of low levels.

Territory Creation
B

Normally the class skill of Caster servants, this skill has replaced the normal class skill of Watcher servants (Territory Infringement).

It allows the servant to recreate the workshop they had in life.

In his case his workshop is an alchemical laboratory with facilities to create alchemical tools and products. In addition to enhancing his alchemy while within it, it also allows him to produce high-end alchemical products that he made in life. It also has natural mystical defenses against intrusion.

Watcher
-

A class skill of Watcher representing the special contract Watcher servants have with their masters.

The precise kind differs between different servants.

In his case he becomes a teacher to his master and aims to turn them into a Caster servant of acceptable prowess and skill. This is because in life he was a teacher to great minds that would go on to utilize Alchemy to advance, popularize, and modernize Science as a whole.

He hopes to replicate this miracle at least one more time.

Personal Skills
Iatrochemistry
B+

A variant of the Medicine skill.

Instead of utilizing chemistry as the basis, Alchemy is utilzied to produce medical products with varying levels of effectiveness dependent on the amount of magical energy expended to produce said medicine. George is thought to have been an expert in this field, granting him a high level in this skill.

At his rank he can recreate many of the medicines he did in life and so even when outside his workshop he can cure most afflictions and heal any injury that is not major. To do that, he requires his workshop and even it has its limits.

It cannot stall the inevitable death caused by a fatal injury.

Philosophy by Fire
B

The title held by Alchemists and was the definition during the Age of Enlightenment for Alchemists.

This skill allows servants to teach prospective students. While it is geared to the teaching of Alchemy, he can also utilize it to teach logic, physics, chemistry, mathematics, politics, and history. Subjects he learned of as an academic. When he utilizes it on a servant, it grants them access to one of his skills at the same rank as him temporarily.

He has this skill due to not only being Watcher, but also the title he fashioned for himself during his time at Harvard. It was their alchemical courses that intrigued him most and set his career path for life. His title, despite its dramatic flair, is the mechanical definition of an Alchemist during his time. Further, he notably had influence and taught alchemy to Isaac Newton, Gottfried Leibniz, Robert Boyle, and John Locke.

As such, he has this skill at a high rank.

Philosopher's Stone
E+

A skill representing a servants capability to create Photonic Crystals.

George Starkey, among other modern alchemists, is capable of creating a 'Diana's Tree' which is a step before the creation of a Philosopher's Stone. However he lost this capability in old age, and so the skill itself is ranked down. He gains a plus modifier whenever he is teaching his student however, as he can demonstrate the creation of a Diana's Tree and its applications.

Despite this skills degredation, he is still capable of the production of Alcahest. The liquid form of Photonic Crystals. It has the use of filtering magical energy to enhance its purity as well as purifying any components put into it. The result of any mixture utilizing it is a healing liquid that can instantly close wounds or cure maladies of all kinds.

If combined with natural medicines, it enhances their effectiveness greatly.

Personality
George Starkey is not a proud alchemist.

He is an ambitious alchemist. He sought the fame and power promised by the construction a Philosopher's Stone. His talent for medicine, as great as it was, was overshadowed by his desire for to construct a philosopherer's stone. This desire however is not present to him as a servant however because he achieved his desire if not in the manner he wished.

He acknowledges the prestige that comes with being a heroic spirit, one of the Watcher Class no less.

Instead as a Watcher he wishes for a simple, humble thing; to watch a student under his tutelage learn and grow. It was why he took on four disciples in his time and took time away from his studies and practice to teach them, even spending funds to do so. He genuinely enjoyed teaching others even if he is somewhat strict in his education style.

As such he often works best with masters who are students or even teenagers and works the worst with learned experts of their craft. However despite this disparity in preference he will do his best regardless and enjoy the process even if his pupils do not. Due to this, the only sort of relationship he ever has with a master is one of Teacher and Student.

Even once a student 'graduates', he often remains stoicly professional.

Hm. I see. Good. You understand the point of Albedo. You have even divined the intent behind it and the basis of the next step; Citrinitas. The purging of contradictions and the beginning of your awakening. Yet you are still lacking. Let us continue your studies and training. You are close, young alchemist, but not there.
