Alchemy.

Thought by some to be the predeccesor to Chemistry, the field of science that revolutionized mankinds understanding of the universe.

Likewise however some think differently.

They consider Alchemy to simply be pure superstition practiced by madmen and frauds.

Yet still there are different opinions.

Some believe that alchemy is a philosophy, meant to guide prospective students on the path of proper science.

Regardless of the reasons, most of its methods are hidden by their practitioners.

Whether due to it being taboo, it being a danger to society, or simply out of embarressment at practicing it.

For some reason few alchemists ever published their work unredacted and uncoded.

Not even the one who inspired humanity's foremost expert of Gravity.

Not even the 'master of secrets' could stand others knowing what he knew.

History

So you seek my own history.

A poor question, student. History is like secrets. So long as you keep them in shadows, they have limitless potential. Endless power.

...

Fine, however.

My history has already been exposed by truth and its potential almost completely squandered. So if I'm to invest whatever potential remains, it shall be you my student. However realize the power you hold. I am willingly giving you not only secrets about myself I tried to keep hidden, but the power they hold.

Allow me to begin with my youth.

I was born to the painter George Stirk.

I began with studies on various insects of mundane quality, noticing particular... anamolies in their function. My father died seven years after I was born and I was sent to what was then New England where my studies on insects continued. Then, I enrolled in Harvard where my career began. They had a course on Alchemy you see and I felt an unnatural pull to it.

As it turns out, I had quite the talent.

While I studied fire mainly, I kept my research broad. Fire, it turns out, is quite the malleable element. However I also studied medicine. This was because I knew I needed funds for my research and medicine would provide those funds. So when I graduated I moved to Boston and plied my new trade.
